2 slots left y'all :):)

If we can get a couple of DDK players to flesh out group 1 with similar skill levels, that would be fantastic!

The current format, if we can get 48 entrants, and courtesy of Herman's proposal in this thread is as follows:

Round 1 -> Group 1 play Group 2, winners progress, losers form the first 8 in the loser's bracket
Round 2 -> Winners play Group 3, winners progress, losers form the second 8 in the loser's bracket
Round 3a -> Winners play Group 4, winners progress, losers drop into the loser's bracket, to play...:
Round 3b -> The winners of the first round in the loser's bracket between the losers in the first two rounds. Losers in the loser's bracket are eliminated
Round 4a -> Winners play Group 5, winners progress, losers drop in the loser's bracket
Round 4b -> 2nd Loser's bracket round, winners stay in, losers are eliminated
Round 5a -> Winners play Group 6, winners progress to the final 8, losers drop in the loser's bracket
Round 5b -> 3nd Loser's bracket round, winners stay in, losers are eliminated
Round 5c -> 16 player's in the loser's bracket, 8 get eliminated
Round 6a -> Final 8 for the winner's bracket, 4 go through, 4 drop
Round 6b -> Loser's bracket - 8 winners from 5c play, 4 get eliminated
Round 6c -> Loser's bracket - 4 winners from 6b play the 4 losers from 6a, 4 get eliminated
Round 7a -> Final 4 for the winner's bracket, 2 go through, 2 drop
Round 7b -> Loser's bracket - 4 winners from 6c play, 2 get eliminated
Round 7c -> Loser's bracket - 2 winners from 7b play the 2 losers from 7a, 2 get eliminated
Round 8a -> Final 2 for the winner's bracket, 1 goes through to the grand final, 1 drops
Round 8b -> Loser's bracket - 2 winners from 7c play, 1 gets eliminated
Round 8c -> Loser's bracket - winner from 8b plays loser from 8a, winner progresses to the grand final at a 1-0 disadvantage
Round 9 -> First to 2 wins between the winner of 8a and the winner of 8c, with the winner of 8a starting with 1 win at 1-0.

This way everyone technically has a chance of winning the whole tournament, but no-one should end up playing people far out of their ability range (unless they do really really well!)

It's possible to play a grand total of 14 games (win round 1, lose round 2, win 3b, 4b, 5b, 5c, 6b, 6c, 7b, 7c, 8b, 8c, and then the first game in round 9), but it's pretty unlikely!

I was trying to follow this, but I didn't quite understand everything. Is this anywhere near what you had in mind:

It's not too late, but the rank you're claiming is very different than what's written in your profile...?

I may not join you folks in this tournament, but I do like the idea, and I wanted to say thanks to Topazg for running it.

To make it easier for everybody to find everybody else, I added a new field.

Nice idea. Of course, it begs the question, what about oro/igs/other? Also, do you have the option of deleting those unused things? AOL? ICQ? Is it still the 1990's?

For the purposes of the initial pairing, I should probably be considered a 7 kyu. My kgs rank has been volatile lately.

If that sort of thing matters.

If another participant is needed to get to an even 48 I would like to join. My current KGS rank shows 3k, but that's probably mostly drift. I wouldn't call it a "proven" rank yet.

I have two KGS accounts (one for fast play and one for longer thinking times). I tried to add both, but I got this error message:

The field “KGS handle” is too long, a maximum of 10 characters is allowed.

Ok, I've now posted the 48 entrants updated list in the first post. Please please please can you make sure you are only on that list if you still want to enter, and also if you aren't on that list but thought you had entered and still want to.

Final question before I do the first round draw, is overtime. Because far more people said it was too quick than too slow, I'm proposing the following two reasonably leisurely options.

Byo-yomi: 5 x 0:40
Canadian: 10 stones in 5 minutes

Please can you state which you prefer (if either), and how strongly you dislike one of them if that's the case.

Doh! Well, I guess consider me an alternate if somebody disappears before the 3rd round.

You can have my slot if you like? I'm not that fussed about participating and I was trying to think of a way not to have daniel_the_smith knocked into the 3rd group :)

Can you post the timelines for the various groups' participation? It occurred to me that if there's a long delay before group 2 gets going, I may not be able to play either (I'm away from mid July to mid August)

I prefer byoyomi to Canadian, and 5 x 0:30 would be plenty slow enough for me (although 5 x 0:40 is fine too).
