Schedule so far is planned as:

Round 1: 1-15 June
Round 2: 16-30 June
Round 3a: 1-15 July
Round 3b: 16-31 July
Round 4a: 16-31 July
Round 4b: 1-15 August
Round 5a: 1-15 August
Round 5b: 16-23 August
Round 5c: 24-31 August
Round 6a: 16-31 August
Round 6b: 1-8 September
Round 6c: 9-15 September
Round 7a: 1-23 September
Round 7b: 16-23 September
Round 7c: 24-30 September
Round 8a: 1-23 October
Round 8b: 16-23 October
Round 8c: 24-31 October
Round 9 match 1: 1-15 November
Round 9 match 2: 16-30 November (if necessary)

Making it exactly a 6 month tournament, which feels nice somehow :)

So, next questions, if people are finding the format a sensible / enjoyable / worthwhile one, is it worth doing more of them in principle?

Is it worth waiting for one to finish before starting the next, or because of the relative rank differences having a 3 month stagger (For example, I'm entering as 1d, seeded into round 4a, but I expect to be knocked out by the end of August)?

Or just not bothering to think about such things until the first one has finished (or at least got closer?

My only concern with running these constantly is it might make it harder to run other tournaments, like the rengo one. If everybody's following/participating in one big one, specialty tournaments would have a harder time. Or do you think there's enough interest for both at once?

I agree that it's a bit early to start thinking about this. But my intuition would be to make this a yearly thing. That would follow the pattern of "real titles", and would make it more special when it comes around. Also it would prevent people from getting burnt out on the concept.

Right now the games are getting lots of attention, which is great. I fear that if we ran overlapping tournaments, then either 1) people would stop paying so much attention, or 2) it would leave less space to pay attention to other tournaments etc. It is cool that right now everyone is excited about the 6k games; they'd probably get ignored more if there were 3d games from the previous tournament going on at the same time.

I really like the format; I think it should be a yearly tournament. Maybe last year's champion instead of playing in the main tournament plays this year's winner in a best of three (or five if people are up for it); that would be even more like a title. And making it yearly would avoid burning people out on the concept.

Maybe we can find a way to get a title like "L19 Champion" to show up on the winner's profile instead of "dies in gote" or whatever? That would be cool :) Maybe if we're really cool, wms could give the winner a special icon on KGS...

If at all possible, I would love to see something like a 6 month tournament -> 1 to 3 month break -> 6 month tournament type of schedule. I think though, that this is asking for too much, especially when there is no real benefit right now to run one of these tournaments besides just community involvement. Something like the above is "ideal". One of the best part about the idea is that I think it would actually gain ground in terms of involvement from various community members, and some of the lurkers if this type of schedule would happen.

I would not mind yearly tournaments at all though. I will say that I would be welcoming of a consistent tournament on a forum as this.

Thank you to topazg, dfan, and whoever else is involved in starting this/ running this/ making it better. It's really great.

Lastly, next time, can we please get a global announcement regarding this tournament? I know I almost missed this current tournament because I didn't think about checking Announcements section for anything other than real life go tournaments.

I like the idea of a yearly champion of L19. Any more frequently and I think participation will quickly drop off.

Also, like Chew said, smaller tournaments like the Rengo one and the Kuchinashi tourney need their time too.

Round 9 match 1: 1-15 November
Round 9 match 2: 16-30 November (if necessary)

I just tried putting these dates in the standings page and I don't think they quite work out.

For example
- You forgot Round 5c
- Round 6c overlaps with Round 6a but includes Round 6a losers
- Same with Rounds 7c and 8c

Maybe the 'c' rounds could be delayed a little, or the end of the 'a' rounds could be moved up a little, or we could just assume that the 'c' rounds will catch up as necessary.

I think this should be a yearly tournament. Just a personal preference.

I'd prefer a yearly tournament, too. I think having more tournaments in parallel makes it difficult to follow the games and will probably split the possible audience.

I agree with the sentiment already put forward in this thread. Make sure they are far enough apart. One a year seems like a good number. And I think it would definitely be fun to have the previous years "title-holder" play in a best of 3 (or 5) match to determine whether they get to keep the title or not. Adds a bit of excitement to get to hold the title or try and win the title.
