Wow, it seems you're right. I can't see a site for 2012 at all.

All I know so far is that in round 1 Japan plays Denmark and South Africa plays Philippines.

As the WAGC has been improving and getting a bit better in online coverage, the KPMC has been moving to nothing.

And, considering that the next 2 WAGC will be held in South Korea, may be we can see this tournament ending.

That question (of whether the KPMC would fall away when the WAGC was in South Korea) was asked at the recent IGF meeting, and the council hastened to answer that that was not intended or planned. I'm personally a little skeptical, as the justification for two essentially identical tournaments in the same country in the same year seems very low. I would not be surprised to see the KPMC fall away, at least for the next two years, even if for now the IGF are certain it will go ahead. If it falls away for two years, it's then unlikely to be resurrected, which will be very sad, as having two events of this nature is fantastic for international go.

I know the website is something the KPMC does not invest in, which is sad, but it does pay for flights, which in a sense makes it the more prestigious/attractive tournament, if you can ignore the more rushed nature of the actual games.

Yes, it pays air tickets BUT, actually for Latin America (and somebody here was told the policy is worldwide) the budget for tickets will be getting smaller.

For example this year Venezuela, Uruguay and Mexico weren't unable to assists because there was no flights in budget for them.

Costa Rica almost didn't get it but the player himself found a more affordable ticket and made the set up everything with KPMC in order to buy it.

So, PROBABLY if the KPMC is to stay, they will go as the WAGC: each player pays its ticket

Some of the players, in particular the USA representative, appear to have started with -1 points (or at least, one less than the "top" group). I don't really understand this. Does it have something to do with the USA's poor results last year (when a strong player was unable to attend)? The USA player won 5/6, but only came 16th.

When I was at KPMC in 2011, it was (IIRC) like a MacMahon tournament with two brackets, 4 dan and above starting at 1 point and 3 dan and below starting at 0. I guess they are using the same system but with the previous year's results as seed instead of using rank (In 2011 the top board for the first round was Korea vs Azerbaijan).

Yes, I've had it confirmed from someone at the event there are two groups, and the groups are based on the previous year's results. Harsh, but to be fair, the USA rep didn't play any of the top players until later in the tournament, which goes some way to explaining his 5/6 result.

I did not get the joke either. The EGD database uses the two letter country code of US, which is the standard representation used for the United States of America (USA).

I was visiting Dublin on business once and quipped that I've forgotten my "UK power adapter" in the hotel. That's the way the sell them here in the US. It doesn't matter for power adapters, but then I realized my mistake after seeing some funny looks, thinking, OMG, they're going to want to take me to a hurling game now to school me or something...

My bad. When I looked at the original fuzzy chart, I did not look closely enough did not notice that Hugh had only one loss. I uncharitably assumed quantumf had mistaken Bill for a southerner.
