THE SURROUNDING GAME ~ the documentary about three young Americans' pursuit of becoming the first Professional Go Players in the West ~ had its Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital world premiere on February 15.

And it was well worth the wait.

i just want to extend a personal, very hearty Thankee, Thank You, and Thank Y'All to the entire SURROUNDING GAME Team that made that movie happen. You have provided the American Go Community with an incredible tool for spreading the Gospel of Go.

The release includes several "Extras"; interviews, scenes, and events not included in the feature presentation that are delightful, insightful, and, in not just a few cases, quite thought-provoking, if not visionary: particular the chats with American Go organizer Chris Kirschner and Korean Baduk Master Cho Hun-hyun.

Also, for the purposes of Outreach, the TGS folks have reduced the price of their Screening Pack [everything anybody needs to put on public showings of the movie, including licensing, promotional, and educational materials]; the perfect way to introduce The Game to Your community.

In any event, that's the plan for up here in Sitka, Alaska.

Go to the TSG website to climb onboard the bandwagon: https://www.surroundinggamemovie.com/ .

A couple of other relevant links You might enjoy as shorts to accompany a local screening include:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i408PuUhEU ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnH5WvbvFWo [an early TSG trailer]; and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uce0eHOrO7w [GO: The Mind Sport].

THE SURROUNDING GAME's Final screen shot reads as follows:

"In 2016 the Go world was shocked
by a breakthrough in artificial intelligence
when top professional Lee Sedol was defeated for the first time
by a computer program."

Which segues perfectly into to the second half of the "Go Nite At The Movies" double-feature: ALPHAGO: a feature-length documentary on that historic encounter. Go to those folks' website at https://www.alphagomovie.com/ to see the Trailer and learn more about the flick. If it strikes Your fancy, it's available thru iTunes, GooglePlay, and Amazon.

The ALPHAGO Team also has a Screening package and program whereby they provide everything needed for a public presentation. And, Google pays all expenses.

Anyway; that's the plan for up here in Sitka.

Compliments to you!

Wikipedia told me that Sitka (Alaska) has 8,986 inhabitants (2005 census). I thought I was ambitious when trying to introduce go in my small town which has 35,007 inhabitants, but you surpass me.
I hope your club is going strong. Keep it up!
