One of the things I'd like to do someday is live in a Buddhist monastery in Korea like the Bongwonsa, or in an Amish community, for a few years and just cut myself away from the intertubes and technology. Not only would it be a bizarre and interesting experience, but I hear that just living in a place without Internet for a few years really has you realize that the Internet doesn't need to be such a vital part in one's life.

When you do that, please post a review in the travel thread.

Of course. You're using "can" in the past tense there, right? :)
I don't want to be nitpicking, but this looks rather like a "conditional". I remember my English class some 25-30 years ago when I had to learn the "if-clauses".... "I could do without, if I wanted to".

I hated English class

Um, while it could be a conditional, it could equally well be intentionally misinterpreted as past tense, like in
"I could do without the internet, because it had not been invented" then. OK, I think this has killed the intended joke for good. :)
