New article! This time Jae will give you an American’s impression of Hikaru No Go!

https://gomagic.org/hikaru-no-go

This article might well be a good reason to watch all of the episodes of this wonderful anime yet another time and get another serving of Go motivation.

Here are some of our future plans!

More than 200 people have taken the recent survey. There were lots of kind words and reasonable suggestions there! Thank you so much!

We’ve made some adjustments in our plans that you can find on our new roadmap page:
https://gomagic.org/roadmap

Many of you wrote that the platform is great but there aren’t enough courses and problems. True that! :) However you must know that we are a very small team and we don’t have any sponsors, so the speed of new content creation can’t be too high. However, we do everything we can to make it faster. For example we’ve decided to reduce the number of visual effects in our future courses which should have a nice effect on the speed of filming and editing.

There were mixed opinions about the remake of our beginner courses, so we decided to go for a compromise. We are not going to reshoot them all right away. We’ll do it gradually, alternating with other courses.

We already started working on the remake of the course with the rules — it will now turn into a complete introduction to the game, not just with the rules but with answers to all most commonly asked beginner questions. We hope to make the best introduction to Go ever!

After that Vadim will create another course. What will it be about? You decide! Stay tuned for the next poll coming soon!

It's great that you're willing to respond to feedback. Will sub as soon as I can. Between this and the relatively new formation of the North American Go Federation I have a lot of optimism about things. :D

Have you considered bringing in external teachers and sharing the proceeds on any course they make with them? That might be a good way to increase the amount of content

We have a special page for this: https://gomagic.org/become-a-teacher
But unfortunately there are very few people willing to film courses, and not all of them meet our quality standards.

Please welcome the debut work from the new teacher Alexey Nechaev 4D, who executed a completely different approach to making a course: three short lessons on simple tesujis in the form of a screencast!

https://gomagic.org/courses/how-tesuji-works

Check it out and let us know if we should use this video format in our future courses!

A new article from our regular contributor Jae Matson. This time it’s about the recent pro qualification tournament in the US. Who are the new pros? Did everything go smoothly?

Hey y’all, Stanislaw Frejlak 1p is coming to visit us and he’s bringing some courses for Go Magic with him. There are lots of cool topics in his suitcase, so you’ve got some tough choices to make here!

1. Ko — Take control over the chaos! (Stanislaw’s favorite topic)
2. Endgame — How to search for the biggest move and count move values precisely (this feels like a sequel to Vadim’s course)
3. Extensions — Protect your stones by safely extending, nuances of many common shapes
4. Moyo — How to build, invade, and defend
5. Sente exchanges — Why they are bad for you, and what are the exceptions
6. Peeps — Connect or fight back?
7. Sacrifices — Ars Moriendi, or How to stick in opponents throat
8. The sources of mistakes — Emotional traps and cognitive errors

Stanislaw himself would like to male a course about endgame or ko but the choice is yours. If there is a topic that you’d really want to become a course, go ahead and vote for it!

Alright, go ahead and vote for two topics to give us a better idea of your preferences.

https://forms.gle/buCRVbn99nPcpZJX7

P.S. Our Discord polls bot doesn’t want to function so this time the vote will happen through Google Form.

The improved and expanded Go rules course!

https://gomagic.org/courses/go-rules

Making Go more popular is one of the most important missions of our project. So we tried making this course modern, fun and clear enough, so that anyone could play and finish a game on their own after completing it. Did we get it right? Did we miss anything? Please leave your comments and we’ll try to fix all the bugs quickly so that this course could be rightfully considered the best!

We’ll publish an interactive page with Go rules in the nearest future as well, for those who prefer reading to watching videos. Plus we’ve made an atari Go bot, so you’ll be able to practice capturing stones on our website soon as well.

We’ve released the final skills for the School of Wizards! :study:

Image

https://gomagic.org/go-problems

Both this skill tree and the first one will keep growing with new problems and we are already beginning to work on the next “Magical Academy” tree (8–1 kyu). You can take a look at its structure on the website.

Some stats
There are over 3000 problems on our platform already!
2270 problems in the Skill Tree and ~1000 problems in the courses.

Stanislaw Frejlak has successfully reached Batumi! As you can see from the photo, sea air and khinkali make people happy! :D

Work on the new course "Ko — take control over the chaos" (the winner of the last survey) is fully underway, but we also plan to shoot a short interview in the style of 15 questions to a Go professional. Please leave your questions in the comments, we will choose the best ones and ask them to Stanislaw. :geek:

P.S. The previous video with 15 questions to Alexander Dinerstein: https://youtu.be/jc2mdbOKHO4
