Hi everyone, I am Benjamin Teuber 6d from Germany.

Together with some friends I have created AI Sensei, a website for analysing your Go games and improving your Go skills.

We wanted to create a single place where players of all skill levels could study, practice and discuss their games with fellow Go players. It’s also completely free, with no need for payments - although you can get deeper analysis with a monthly subscription.

This is what it looks like:

What makes AI Sensei different?

  • Helpful Feedback for your level

AI can be very helpful in improving one’s Go, but it can also be detrimental if not used well. Nowadays AI is so strong that it can see even the tiniest mistake, and this leads some players to overanalyze and stress over very small mistakes. We want to help players focus on what’s really important. AI Sensei gives each of your moves a rating, from “AI Move” or “Good Move”, through “Inaccuracy” and “Mistake”, all the way down to “Blunder” (a game-losing move). By concentrating mainly on Mistakes and Blunders, you can avoid the pitfall of getting hung up on small mistakes, spend your time more efficiently, and thus improve more quickly.

  • Personalized Practice Tools

When reviewing games you will often find mistakes that you would like to avoid in the future. With other tools your best option is to simply try to remember it then and there. But that’s not how the mind works - it needs regular repetition to remember things effectively. To help you learn most effectively, AI Sensei has a personalized training mode, where you can add your mistakes from your games. You can then use the training tools to revisit these mistakes and make sure you remember all the correct moves in the future.

  • Clean Visualization with Instant Live Mode

Humans are visual learners, and colors are a quick and easy way to communicate a lot of meaning. You can see at a glance which area of the board was most important, and how good the game move is compared to the AI suggestion. To explore other variations with live AI feedback, you can simply click on the board.

  • Community Features

One thing that AI isn’t good at (yet) is providing a clear explanation of exactly why certain moves are better than others. In these cases, it’s easy to get stuck simply believing what the AI says, without truly understanding it, which can hamper your learning. Therefore, we have now added the new “Discuss” feature. Whenever a move or situation is unclear, you can quickly and easily ask other players for help. It usually won’t take long for another member of the AI Sensei community to join the discussion and help you understand the AI’s suggestions. And it’s also a fun way to chat with other Go players. Go ahead and try it out! :)

You can check it out for free here:
https://ai-sensei.com

We hope you give our website a shot. Again, it’s completely free, with no strings attached, and we’d be more than happy to welcome you to the AI Sensei community! :)

You can now play against KataGo on AI Sensei.

Currently, the only opponent is KataGo with 50 playouts - already strong enough to beat me (6d) with 3 handicap stones!

You can also try this fun challenge: Take 4 stones on 9x9 and try to kill everything on the board. It's really difficult even for high dans!

Here's a video if you want to see it in action:
