Re: Do you play drunk?
I often go to a bar with friends after the go club meeting. I usually drink two beers (these are pints of microbrew, so that's probably about the same as 3 or so cans of budweiser). I'm not sure how much that affects my game, but I enjoy drinking beer, and I enjoy drinking go, so I don't worry about whether I'm playing as well as I can.
For those who dislike drinking and/or look down on it, well, people are different. There are lots of good reasons not to drink, so I'll never criticize a person for abstaining, and I'd hope nondrinkers would have show the respect of not criticizing people who drink in moderation.

Re: Do you play drunk?
This is beginning to sound like an insinuation that anyone who drinks alcohol, at any level of volume or moderation, is automatically a drunk?xDragon wrote:id rather be closed minded than a drunk, so thats fine with me.
I can completely empathise with a strong dislike of irresponsible drinking, and I can completely respect people who choose not to touch any mind altering substances (alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco included). I can also respect those who chose otherwise, without the need for insults.
However, this thread looks like it is beginning to head slowly towards ad hominem. Respect and respect alike if possible, pretty please

Re: Do you play drunk?
It might be worth your while to distinguish between those who drink and those who are "drunks," as the former includes a pretty substantial proportion of humanity, and the latter a fairly small portion. I'd be surprised if any/many here have a serious alcohol problem--when would they be sober enough for go?xDragon wrote: id rather be closed minded than a drunk, so thats fine with me.

Even though that's fairly analagous to saying that someone who skips a meal once, for any reason, has an eating disorder?xDragon wrote:bingo. i dont distinguish.topazg wrote: This is beginning to sound like an insinuation that anyone who drinks alcohol, at any level of volume or moderation, is automatically a drunk?

Re: Do you play drunk?
I think that position insults those who drink responsibly and belittles the harm done by those who don't.xDragon wrote:bingo. i dont distinguish.topazg wrote: This is beginning to sound like an insinuation that anyone who drinks alcohol, at any level of volume or moderation, is automatically a drunk?

Re: Do you play drunk?
is there really such a thing as drinking responsibly? just the act itself begs irresponsibility.daniel_the_smith wrote:I think that position insults those who drink responsibly and belittles the harm done by those who don't.xDragon wrote:bingo. i dont distinguish.topazg wrote: This is beginning to sound like an insinuation that anyone who drinks alcohol, at any level of volume or moderation, is automatically a drunk?

Re: Do you play drunk?
Speaking as a non-drinker, I don't believe you are qualified to answer the question. If someone drinks, and doesn't then act irresponsibly, what justification is there behind a judgement of irresponsible drinking?xDragon wrote:is there really such a thing as drinking responsibly? just the act itself begs irresponsibility.

Re: Do you play drunk?
it doesnt matter if they act irresponsibly after the fact because theyve already been irresponsible just by the fact they consumed the alcohol.topazg wrote:Speaking as a non-drinker, I don't believe you are qualified to answer the question. Re: Do you play drunk?
Only if you judge that as irresponsible in itself. At the moment, it doesn't seem to have any justification. Drinking small quantities of red wine is widely considered to be healthy, so one could even argue it as part of a healthy diet - what is the justification for this act being in itself irresponsible?xDragon wrote:it doesnt matter if they act irresponsibly after the fact because theyve already been irresponsible just by the fact they consumed the alcohol.

Why is it irresponsible to take a sip of alcohol?xDragon wrote: it doesnt matter if they act irresponsibly after the fact because theyve already been irresponsible just by the fact they consumed the alcohol.

Re: Do you play drunk?
yes, i do. thats the idea.topazg wrote:Only if you judge that as irresponsible in itself.
i dont think that healthy and irresponsible are exclusive form each other. besides, i dont know many people who drink alcohol for the purpose of keeping a healthy diet.At the moment, it doesn't seem to have any justification. because of the implications of what can come with it.daniel_the_smith wrote:

Re: Do you play drunk?
That's not your real objection. We're already talking about people who drink in moderation, which by definition means they aren't drinking enough to start doing stupid things afterwards: there are no implications for them. What's your real reason?xDragon wrote:because of the implications of what can come with it.daniel_the_smith wrote:

youre under the assumption that drinking itself isnt stupid...daniel_the_smith wrote: That's not your real objection.
