Re: [Poll] Favorite Go YouTubers
One of my criteria was that the YouTuber had to have posted a video in the last 2 years. I mentioned LGDArchives in my post, but there hasn't been a new video since October of 2011.cyclops wrote:What happened to shyghost ?
As for what happened to him personally, I have no idea. He isn't active on the KGS anymore either and his page on Sensei's hasn't been touched in a year.

I don't mind people trying to get attention. And if they can do so by doing something they love (like teaching/playing go), then more power to them!moyoaji wrote:To be fair, blanket attacks like this are unfair. Which of these players do fall into that category, if I may ask?
However, I have little respect for people who sandbag on camera.
And it's interesting you should bring up KingsCrusher, who plays even games while commenting.
I believe dwyrin's winrate on youtube is pretty close to 100%. Please correct me if I'm mistaken about that.
I fully agree. Torturing cute animals to death and posting videos of it on youtube has a very good track-record of getting attention.moyoaji wrote:Frankly, if someone is making go videos on YouTube strictly for the sake of getting attention then they suck at getting attention.
Also school shootings and arson.
However I don't see the relevance to Go players who post Go-related youtube videos. (Nor do I see how "my little pony" videos come into the picture.)

Go Commentary, because he's the only one in that list who really knows what he's talking about.

I voted for Go Commentary, but apparently accidentally voted for the one above? Is it possible to have my vote changed?
Maybe I should just pretend to support the underdog. None of you understand EscueladeGodeBilbao's brilliance! Even I can see it, despite not speaking a lick of Spanish!

Nick Sibicky? Is that his real name? It sound like a play on Icki Jibicki.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

He is also a member of the AGA (you can search for his name under the ratings page).

He's a member of the Seattle Go Center, and most of his videos are recordings of the lectures he gives there once a week. I met him while I was there over the summer but never got to play him.

DrStraw, I apologize, apparently “Icki Jibicki” is a reference I did not get, and so I had a wrong impression and jumped the gun, I’m sorry.
And thank you, Boidhre, for clearing up things.

I don't understand. Attempting to emulate Iki Jibicki would be the ultimate in praise for someone who was a great loss to the AGA.Bonobo wrote:DrStraw, this gives deeper insight into your personality than you may have wished.DrStraw wrote:Nick Sibicky? Many outside (and probably within) the AGA wouldn't get the Iki Jibicki reference and think you were just making fun of someone's name, to be fair.DrStraw wrote:I don't understand. Then they need educating. That was the last thing on my mind. I genuinely thought that he might be paying a tribute to Bob High.Boidhre wrote:DrStraw wrote:Bonobo wrote:

Thank you, Boidhre, apparently this is the case with me (living in Germany), and …Boidhre wrote:[..]

Please accept my apology, DrStraw, I got the wrong impression and jumped the gun on this, I’m sorry.
(And I still have no idea who that may be.)

(Oh, and learnt is the past participle. The past tense is learned.)

[Off-Topic] Go Kiburi, learned/learnt, Iki Jibiki/Waka Jawak
Thank you.DrStraw wrote:Apology accepted.
Thank you, bookmarked, that’s an amazing source for … procrastination
Oh, I LOVE that! Bad puns PLUS Science Fiction PLUS Go—what more could I wish for?specifically the link to Go Kiburi: http://www.usgo.org/files/bh_library/gokiburi.pdf
Well, I learnt my childhood English in Kerala, South India, in the beginning 1960’s … mostly Indian English and British English, some US English (and I still love code switching), and AFAIK “learnt” is a legitimate variant for the past tense of “to learn”:(Oh, and learnt is the past participle. The past tense is learned.)
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/learnt
BTW I also ask “whom?” and still shudder a bit when I listen to “Who Do You Love” by The DoorsAlternative forms
learned (Standard US English spelling, Canadian)
[..]
Verb
learnt
1. (UK, African American Vernacular, alternative in Canada) simple past tense of learn
I learnt so many things in this school.
2. (UK, African American Vernacular, alternative in Canada) Past participle of learn
She has learnt to adapt to the changes quickly.
BTW #2: Could “Iki Jibiki” be a reference to Waka Jawaka?
