Failed Install - Windows 8.1

Post by Charlie »

Tygem won't install on my laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 (update 1) 64-bit.

I have tried all the usual tricks - running as administrator, old downloaded setup files that worked years ago and wotnot. It fails with no meaningful error during the second phase of the install - that is, the graphical thing that downloads stuff, not the MSI that runs before it.

From what I can tell when it declares that it has failed ("Fail install" or some equally useless message) it is trying to extract LZF archives containing individual DLLs.

Any ideas?

I just installed on a windows 8.1 64 bit machine yesterday. I wish I could help, but it did just work.

This morning, I successfully installed Tygem on my work PC which is also Windows 8.1 (64-bit) but does not have 8.1 update 1 installed.

I have zipped up the program-files and sent them home - I'll give it a try, this evening, and report back.

Tygem windows client is one of those that makes your security hackles rise. It pretty much constantly needs to run in elevated privileges without a firewall, because it installs new executables from the internet every time it runs, so either you turn the firewall off or re grant firewall privileges each time.

I use the ipad app, it's not bad.
