Just ended this game played white and lost. First picture shows end of game second picture is what could have been.
What is the correct move for white to save the group that was lost?
My guess was that playing J-12 in bottom picture, would've saved the game (if a - s is left to right and 1 - 19 is bottom to top ). Would this have created two eyes and saved the group and the game??
Thanks for all responses.

I cannot speak for others, but that picture is way too big for me to be able to see enough of it on the screen at one time. I think you need to edit the picture to be a smaller size.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Hi jawon,
Yes. To save that group, White must make a second real eye.
One coordinate system goes from A1 (lower left 1-1 point) to
T19 (upper right 19-19 point), skipping over the 'i' column.
This forum uses such a system for diagrams and SGF.
There is no 'i' column. 'H' goes directly to 'J'.
Your "J-12" for White would be K12 on this forum's coordinates.
For future reference:

For future reference:
- Your 2 photos have different orientations. One photo is rotated 90° relative to the other. This can be confusing when you refer to coordinates about them.
- See How to Make Diagrams .
- People use all different kinds of displays when browsing this forum, from the 5K Mac screens to small phones (like I'm using right now). It's helpful for you to think from the viewer's perspective.

Here are the images in SGF format (unless I made mistake in transcribing).

P.S. After you live, where does black need to defend to avoid you killing his group?

So this is better than what the proverb suggests ("die in sente; live in gote"). This is a case of "live in sente".Uberdude wrote:Yesjawon wrote: My guess was that playing J-12 in bottom picture, would've saved the game (if a - s is left to right and 1 - 19 is bottom to top ). Making the second eye is correct. But here are a couple of interesting variations.
The Adkins Principle:
At some point, doesn't thinking have to go on?

Visualize whirled peas.
Everything with love. Stay safe.
