In his KGS channel (LGD, under Lessons), he writes:
Welcome to Lances Go Dojo.

Good day LGDers.
It has become clear that my new business has really taken me away from KGS and Go in general, and I don't see any change in the near future.

I certainly think back fondly on my 40+ years of playing Go and my 25 years of teaching Go. I have met so many great people and had so many great battles.

Thanks to you all for helping keep this room friendly and respectful for all these years.

thanks,
shygost

Ah, fond memories... I remember when Shygost's lectures at 3am on a Saturday morning were my way to wind down after a Friday night out.

Thank you for the responses. It's a sad thing to hear... That he has all but given up go after such a long journey.

I wouldn't say given up. Many players who have been playing for a long time take breaks. I have taken two prolonged breaks during my 40+ years of playing. I am sure he will be back eventually.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
