it seems both players overlooked the interesting timing of black 1 here. If black does this before the q2 atari white can't connect by falling back due to the atari of 5. And if white just blocks it leaves a cut that might not work yet with blacks low liberties outside but is a debt white must pay for. So I think white should have ataried like Bill showed, the counter atari on 2nd line is not to be feared. Maybe black can cut to the left in reply to avoid making the dumb empty triangle connection, and then after extending and White's connection he can play the 2nd line atari but even then he can't extend into the corner so white is happy.

Now comes the hard part. I would love to play at "A" to fix some shape problems, sine it is sente for B to take it, but it probably isn't sente. Another option is to look after my bottom group with "B" or something like it. Or I can tenuki.
is very efficient, protecting both the three stones on the left and the single stone on the right. That fact indicates the problem with White's earlier solid connection, in the next diagram.

And White could have played the osae at this point.
So often players ask, what do I do in this difficult position? when a better question is, how could I have avoided this difficult position?
This forward focus is related to fuseki blindness, where the answer to all difficulties is believed to be better tactics instead of better strategy, as well.

Extending on the bottom to "a" leaves way to many weaknesses in W's shape. "b" is the only way I could find to fix them, but it is horribly slow, so for now I will treat those stones fairly lightly and see how the board develops. I have heard it said that if you can't find a good move, tenuki!
Inseong has been reprimanding me lately, because he says I need to "take it easy" in the opening. He thinks I try to start something before something exists - instead, I should just be calm and wait for the opportunity to win.
So I really debated playing this move and the one here:

@Kirby:
It is intresting that Inseong says you're to impatient. I feel I'm the complete opposite because ignore opportunities to attack to use them later and am angry about myself as soon as my fixes his weakness naturally. As a result I try to change it and my current idea is to thing in this situations about how it might help me later vs. how my opponent can fix it naturally. You did think about the natural fix, but not the help it might be later. I always thought about what great things can happen later with just a bit reinforcement or which group I might save/invade later because of that weakness. Maybe it would help you to think about that part a little bit more and I have to think about the part you're already doing a bit more
Just pinging this thread, because I think DJLLAP might be active since he's played in his other games, but may have not realized that I made a move in this one.
