Anyone have children who play?
I've recently started playing Go, and of course my 5 year old son got very curious and is learning too (25 episodes of Hikaru No Go and counting probably contributes). We have just started playing some games on OGS and he is wondering if there are any children on there?
Any of you play Go with your kids, especially online?

My two, 9 and 6, play some over the board but neither play online. They're not big into it just another one of our board games for them.

Which version of Hikaru did you enjoy:
original Japanese dialogue with subtitles (which language?),
or dubbed dialogue (which language) ?
Since your child is only 5, perhaps it was a dubbed version ?
We are watching the original version. I read the english subtitles and translate them on the fly to swedish for my son
Th advantage with viewing the original is he knows all the terms like onegaishimas and makimashita.

Many children go to the go club in Boulder, Colorado. If there is a club in your area, maybe your son would like to go

Re: Anyone have children who play?
My three year old will occasionally "play go" with Daddy. She even has her own apple tree themed 4x4 go set published by the Nihin Ki-in. She has learned to place the stones on the intersection and gets the idea that stones can be captured, though she can't consistently identify how to do so. She also has enough patience to play through a couple dozen moves from a pro game with me if I point out where to place the stones.
When she wants to play with white, she'll tell me that she "wants to be the teacher." It might not be long before she takes white every time...

We, my six year old daughter and I, also watched Hikaru no Go. After that I bought some equipment and began learning to play. My daughter is not so interested in Go than in Gomoku / Renju which she plays quite good, already.

Re: Anyone have children who play?
My son is 5.5yo. He started wanting to play with the stones right around his 5th birthday and through patience and perseverance we can now play 9x9 or 19x19 without much input from my side.
It's been fascinating observing his gradual progress. He still has trouble with ko. He tends to avoid fighting. The 4-3, 5-3 corner enclosure is his favorite.
I felt very proud the first time I watched him read out a potential 2nd line cut and decide it would fail so he didn't need to protect.
Kids learn so fast. He'll probably be giving me stones by age 7.

Of course not. You must give them opportunities to apply their learning
