I just received my shell and slate stones by mail today. It came with a manufacturers certificate which I posted on Facebook, could someone translate the Japanese? Wondering if it is from a well known manufacturer in Japan.

That's a little "welcome/thank you" note, not a certificate.
No manufacturer mentioned.

Basically says, thanks for bidding/buying from us from us. The product's been packaged with care, but if anything broke or if the product doesn't match the description, try to contact. Regarding refund/returns, they'll adhere to the product guarantee.

I found this second piece of information on the side of the box, maybe this has the manufactuerer, can anyone tell or translate this?

Thanks

There should be a new image on that page that I uploaded today. It is Japanese writing on the end of the box that the stones came in. I will double check the link.
Edit
Yes the new image is there you may have to scroll to the second picture.

Thanks EdLee

Ah, there's a right arrow. :)

Still no manufacturer info, AFAIK.
It's slate & shell stones,
clams origin: Japan ? (or otherwise :) 日向特製),
manufactured in Japan,
grade (徳用 印), and the size (32).

I'm not familiar with the 徳用 grade ;
I wonder if it's related to the 実用 ( jitsu yo, standard ) grade...

The second image is not a manufacturer sticker.
It is basically the same sticker that appears on the side of every box of go stones you buy that are real. It just says that they are real shell and slate stones and gives the size.
It is 徳用 (Toku You) style though, which is not good quality stones. It means that they are discounted stones, maybe damaged or different types of stones grouped together, I believe.

Here is a website in Japanese that has a description of the quality of stones. It is considered below Jitsu.
http://www.megumido.co.jp/shopbrand/027/X/
Basically, it says that these are normally stones that cannot be sold. They are somehow damaged, misshapen, etc.

Thank you for the reply Go_Japan and EdLee.

The stones are mixed grade that is why they are probably rated like that and why they were sold at a discount. 50% Moon grade, 20% snow grade and 30% standard grade. About 70 of the shell stones also had small pits or knicks in them which may be another reason they are discounted. I still think I got a good deal at $189 for this size stones, what do you think?

Of course all that really matters is that you like them. A set of 32 size standard grade (Jitsu) stones costs around 28,000 yen in Japan, so that would be about 270USD. I don't think you got ripped off or anything. Price seems reasonable for the stones.
