2k kgs game half point loss

Post by Schachus »

Hi, I just played this game as white on KGS and lost by half a point. I already commented some this, I would be interested in answers to explicit questions, but also general comments on middle game strategy and my biggest endgame blunders.

Thanks a lot in advance:

Few remarks. As usual, I am happy to stand corrected:

:w16: Since you went for influence on the left, I'd go for a high approach
:w24: I can't see a clear refutation, but I'd be scared that the white top stones may end up looking stupid.
:b35: I don't like this move. It tries to erase whites potential. Playing high at L16 might accomplish more. Id play at O17 or N17 and if white pincers H17 I'd call it a too meager extension from his wall.
:w42: I think it is good here. It will be a stare down of walls. Getting a defect into the opponents wall might pay off.
:w58: I don't believe in that one. Black got a cutting point OK, but giving him a target next to his wall doesn't look beneficial. I'd consider H15 instead and keep it in reserve.
:b63: I'd hane at the other side. You got a too great result to be true.
If something sank it might be a treasure. And 2kyu advice is not necessarily Dan repertoire..

Hi bayu, thanks for your comments. Especially at 63 you seem to be completely right. During the game, I was surprised to see his move, but didnt realize that is was so clearly letting me off the hook, I was mererly thinking "oh, that way. Then I go this way"

For 16, I tried playing high before(in general, I like plaing high approach to 3-4 a little better, but I noticed the low move scored a lot better in pro games and so I tried the low one, ehich seems to make some sense too, as I#m not too afraid of pincer).
