A few games to review

Post by Razor0310 »

I've recently hit a plateau and a loosing streak so I was wondering if someone can have a look over a couple of my games and give me an idea of where I'm going wrong. I usually play a few games a day, though I will admit I have a habit of rushing and not using all of my time.

If you have any questions for me I'd be happy to answer :)
Thanks in advance for anyone who has a look at these.

As a general theme in your games I think you should strive to end up with fewer groups on the board. Quite often you exchange secure territory for influence and then you try to catch up by reducing these frameworks.

Hi Razor,
I have a habit of rushing and not using all of my time.
How much rushing ? What are you going to do about it ?

v. ken:

:w30: Seems slow ?

:w34: Seems slow ?

:w46: B can close you starting with P2.
If :w46: at P2, it's different.

:w50: B can cut off this stone starting with P2.

:b65: This affects your corner sequences: B S19 hane,
W S12 attach+(hane)+(cross-cut).

:w88: ? Locally, C19.

:b95: What if S13 ? (re: :b65: )

:white: 130 ?

:black: 181 Threatens at least 3 stones.

:white: 186 If you give up the 3 stones and don't have enough,
it's from earlier mistakes and slow moves.

A very few comments. :)

Game 1

What is the point of :w12:?

Game 2

:b11: Why not attack at M-17?

Game 3

:w8: Why not attack at C-12?

That's a good point. Maybe this is because I struggle to play large frameworks myself, so I prefer secure territory.

I guess I'll just have to make myself think longer about my moves.

v. Ken

For :w34: I thought that a move around there for black would both weaken my group and strengthen blacks moyo, so I thought it was large-ish.

:w46: This is the kind of move I make because I rush and don't read things out I guess. P2 occured to me pretty much immediately afterwards.

:b65: Apparently I have a problem with assuming groups are alive when they really aren't yet.

:w88: That honestly never occured to me in the game but is much better on reflection.

All of the endgame mistakes follow the same theme of not reading or not looking at the whole board to see what the biggest move is, so I'll try to watch that in the future.

Game 1

I think my idea was to stop the black group taking the whole left side and protect the corner, but I guess I just gave black an even bigger move along the top.

Game 2

That did occur to me, but then I wanted to try and split the stones first and go after the one he didn't defend. Unfortunately after he jumped into the corner I lost the base for my stones and the attack was turned around on me somewhat.

Game 3

I think I was worried I'd get pincered by black. He'd be able to get a base in the corner and down the left side and I'd just be running into the centre without taking anything for myself.
