Yes, he holds the other 6 currently. He has the Oza and Tengen title matches in October - December this year, both against Ichiriki Ryo, but he can't lose those until late November and this Meijin match will be over by early November at the latest.

Outside of the generous contributions to 19x19 by yourself and others, what's the best English-language avenue to keep up with Japanese professional go these days?

The AGA E-Journal has some high-level news (search for "Power Report"), though you'll have to sift through the American news to get to it.

If you want it as email, there are instructions for subscribing here.

If Takao wanted to play in that area of the board, was there a better move? Something like 3-3 itself means Iyama couldn't get those forcing moves but is very slack for points so maybe he'd just gently reduce and win.

When the game got to this position, I felt like the knight's move at P18 was preventing Iyama from making shape on the side by threatening to cut at Q15 (after some preparation with his N12 group). Is that something that may have come up of Takao played directly on the 3-3?

Iyama, playing as the Japanese NHK cup winner, lost to Lee Sedol (Korean KBS Cup winner) in the 1st round of the Asian TV cup. NHK runner-up Ichiriki Ryo did beat the surprise (beat Ke Jie in semi-final shortly after winning EGC) Chinese CCTV cup winner Zhang Tao though.

P.S. oren, in some of those pictures there are coloured percentages above the board. Are these predicted win rates from a bot like Zen, viewer voting/betting, or something else?

The figures relate to the positional evaluation by a program called 棋神 (programmer Iguchi, company Heroz) but the programmer said that while it's a probability of who's ahead the program is weak in assessing whether stones are dead alive, so I'd assume it's probably wisest to ignore these figures. I think this company is already well established in using shogi and chess software for podcasts, and I'm guessing they are just moving into the go world.

Iyama beat Takao in game 3 of the Meijin title match. Takao won a big early ko, and Iyama's threat didn't kill a group but he got very thick and after 2 more fights he managed to surround a big enough centre to win.

Iyama had a big fight and lost against Korean wonderkid Shin Jinseo in the Samsung cup round of 16.

I think Shin outread him, after the push and the net in the middle, B doesn't really have an option to get out, nor to fight the semeai. So sad to see Iyama losing like this, usually his calculation power seems to be one of his strengths.

Indeed, Shin played very strongly and without fear. I really liked that attachment from him on the left group that gave Iyama a stupid-looking empty triangle. Diana Koszegi is currently live streaming on facebook a review from him and An Sungjoon, looking at the Ke Jie 3-3 big joseki fight. Now onto Shin-Iyama, looking at an alternative fuseki:

Iyama out-fought Takao to win the 4th game of the Meijin title match. After losing the first game he's now just one win away from regaining his septuple crown.

Let's view his as a jubango, whether the players agree with it or not.

Oza game 1 vs Ichiriki is underway. Iyama played an AlphaGo style 3-3 on move 5 which I don't recall seeing him do before. It was a diagonal game though so less chance for a moyo from the resulting wall.

Iyama won by resign.
