I've only played my first 2 games of 2019 today, both against the same opponent. Lately I'm focusing my energy more on Go culture, as in Go shistory, replaying Pro Games from Shusaku, Huang Longshi... But also keeping up tsumego and other problem books.
My aim for this year, a a player, is to get rid of my bad habits while playing online. First one on the radar:

1) click, click, click. Don't stop to read but play too fast online. Bad habit.

That is why I took a break from online playing, and I won't be playing a lot in the coming weeks. But when I play, I want to play seriously, think about my moves at least a bit and read things out.

I am Spoonsy on KGS, and these are the two games I played. Some self-reviewing already, hoping for some additional comments, both positive and negative ;)

Warm-Up Game
This was a bit of a warm-up game as my opponent misread a part early on and the game was over quickly. There really wasn't enough on the board yet to see how well/bad I was doing, so just a nice proof that at least my reading has improved, having seen that capture.

Other comments:
:b11: :b13: :b15: might've been somewhat dangerous.
:b21: was only because I stopped and made myself think of at least a few good candidates for moves. Bad habit of playing too quickly avoided and found this nice move that Leela backed up in my review with her. Without thinking, I would've probably approached white in the right bottom corner.
:b25: :b27: Also results from some reading, or at least not wanting to overplay. Even if :b27: might let white out, the hane is no good, so I didn't play it.
therefor :b37: is a bad move, I think. White can punish later at D11.
:b39: has to fix that weakness there.

It was fun that automatch on KGS fixed me up with the same opponent again, so we could have a rematch! Let's call this the White Game, since I'm playing white in this one.

White Game
Some comments:
:w8: Leela prefers to slide into the corner.
:w10: Since I've started playing Go until now, I haven't pincered much. I decided to start experimenting with it, more. This might not be the best position and way to pincer, but at least it's consistent with :w8:, right?
:w20: seemed important, Leela agrees.
:w28: :w30: Bad. Just, bad. Question is: do I need to add a move to defend the G17 cutting point? Seems too small now. Attacking the black group is probably better.
:b35: too soft. At D6, it would split white in two weak groups.
:w48: I think I got the right idea, but Leela likes to poke first at D12.
At move :w50:, I honestly had no good idea of where to play (or not any idea that stood out). So I decided on: Go is a surrounding game. This stone works well with my other stones, I think.
:w68: Just plucked a stone somewhere around the area I thought was nice. Maybe K9 would be better, though.
:w76: My reasoning for the high pincer: black can live on the side or in the corner, I want that middle, it's looking good for me.
:w80: probably too soft, but I figured I was ahead and taking this corner, albeit rather slow, was a strong move to make some nice points.
:w86: bad. Just atari and extend.
Add 100.
:w4: bad. Mistake. But the mistake comes back to haunt black a few moves later. I suffer a local loss first.
:b15: :b17: very bad. Now my double hane comes back into play.
:w28: Very bad. I am connected.

Won't comment past this point. I figured I was ahead so I got a little more lazy (that explains white 128). Black got into an all-or-nothing in the middle, I made some good moves, some bad ones, but I kept him from making 2 eyes, kept myself strong and black resigned eventually.

Yeah :D
Of course I noticed and was able to read the cut. I just figured: if he cuts, it's a fight, or perhaps even some sort of trade where I can gain some strong stones projecting influence towards the middle. But maybe white cutting there will give white a much better result and playing the nobi instead of the double hane was honte.
Still, as someone who used to have the habit of overdefending, being over aggressive is a nice change. Now I have to find the middle ground :cool:

Game 2. Top of the head comments.

:w8: Yes, this move is deprecated these days.

:w20: Bravo!

:w28: C-13 prevents a Black base, threatens to connect, and bolsters the pincer stone.

:b35: A misclick, one hopes.

:w36: White's play made :b35: look OK. Either tenuki (my choice), or G-03 or F-03.

:w68: Coup de grace.

Odd, I downloaded them from KGS using cgoban.
Here, I put the original .sgf in my post (of the 2nd game), maybe that one works?

In comments KGS puts the players' ranks in [] brackets, which is what SGF puts property values inside. It also adds a : without the escape character, \, before it. Example: C[Spoonsy [7k?]: have a fun game] Why KGS does that I don't know.

Edit: I guess I'm wrongly blaming KGS. The SGF in the quoted post works OK. It has the escape character. Like this: C[Spoonsy [7k\]: hi hf] Somehow it seems -- and not just with Ian's SGF files -- that something strips the \.

Okay thanks. In thrle future I'll delete the in game comments and then it'll be fine.
I'll edit the OP later, too.

I checked on KGS and downloaded one of your earlier games. KGS puts in the escape character, \, so it's file is OK. Here are the first lines of the file.

(;GM[1]FF[4]CA[UTF-8]AP[CGoban:3]ST[2]
RU[Japanese]SZ[19]KM[6.50]TM[1200]OT[5x30 byo-yomi]
PW[HKally]PB[Spoonsy]WR[5k]BR[7k]DT[2018-12-30]PC[The KGS Go Server at http://www.gokgs.com/]C[Spoonsy [7k?\]: have a fun game
]
RE[W+Resign]
;B[pd]BL[1191.631]C[HKally [5k\]: hi gg
]
)

I bolded the comments with the \ in them.

So some other program must be deleting the \. There's the problem. Hmmm. Both the original KGS file and the flawed file seem to have been made with CGoban:3. Passing strange. :scratch:
