Seeing Sequences
Here's a live game. I tried to honestly reproduce which sequences I've seen during the game and then documented the sequences Lizzie saw for the 3 best candidates. The longest sequence I saw was 20 moves (other than a ladder). I don't think I actively considered more than 3 candidates in my game.

Seeing sequences - part 2
This time a pro game, between Otake and Cho. Not an easy game to analyze and learn from.

Re: Knotwilg's practice
How I review my games with LZ:
I first reviewed this game without LZ, then with. During the latter, I marked the comments as follows:
A - I think it's a good move and LZ agrees
B - I think it's a bad move and LZ agrees
X - I think it's a good move but LZ disagrees
Y - I think it's a bad move but LZ disagrees
L - LZ comes up with a move in a situation I'd even not think of it
final count
A13 B9 X5 Y0 L11
In my analysis I marked 18 (particularly) good moves and 9 bad ones
13/18 LZ agreed with me it was a good move, if not the best
5 times she disagreed
9/9 LZ agreed it was a bad move, meaning she did not consider it
none of my self criticims was refuted
11 times LZ came up with a move I didn't consider at all, or which caught me by surprise
Lessons learnt
1) single stone corners are really urgent
2) hane at the head of two is really bad
3) don't just play good shape if there's a double purpose move
meta: confide in what you think is good, but confide even more in your doubt

Re: Knotwilg's practice
Err, what are these variations with two Black moves in a row?
Thanks.

Re: Knotwilg's practice
From a critic I have turned into a fan of dwyrin's basic series. As Dave suggested, I'm now uploading one of my own losses, while trying to apply dwyrin's "basic" style. I had to wait a while
as I entered Foxy as a 1D and won my first 14 games. Then this guy came along, the first to respond to my greeting "hi" and the first to beat me (by 5,5)
The losing move is pretty clear, or rather the move where I failed to convert my advantage into a clear win. Instructively I failed to apply "attack for profit" (115) and lost because I went for an impossible kill (117).

Re: Knotwilg's practice
Besides it being bad shape, I don't know what black 125 achieves. What am I missing?

Re: Knotwilg's practice
The idea was: destroy the eye while threatening to cut off a stone. BUt of course, with White connecting out, the first purpose was purposeless and the second too small.Ian Butler wrote:Besides it being bad shape, I don't know what black 125 achieves. What am I missing?

I guess you understood it correctlyBill Spight wrote:Hane at the head of two stones is bad?Knotwilg wrote:Lessons learnt

3) don't just play good shape if there's a double purpose moveWow! If that holds up, it's a really important finding.

Re: Knotwilg's practice
This sounds intriguing - how is "hane at the head of two stones really bad" in general?Knotwilg wrote:I guess you understood it correctlyBill Spight wrote:Hane at the head of two stones is bad?Knotwilg wrote:Lessons learnt

Re: Knotwilg's practice
I'm 3d on Foxy now, which should get me some more interesting games. The one today was interestingly ... over after 52 moves.
