So, studio Pierrot has launched a commemorative site to the beloved anime's 20th anniversary. The actual anniversary is Oct 10th and from what I can make out more things will be announced closer to that day. The first thing was a commemorative illustration that you can view on the main site. Hard to believe its been 20 years!

Thanks for a non-AI post. 20 years for the anime! Whew, I remember buying the Japanese DVDs and following along with the English comics. Then buying the English dubbed DVDs. Then watching on Netflix.
I was hoping the manga publishers would likewise celebrate with a commemorative re-issue.

Heck, I am hoping for a reboot and actually finish the entire story.

Wow, 20 years already, Hikaru must be around 31 years old then (or 33 if we consider that the manga was created in 1999). What did we miss of their lives? How many finals of big titles did Hikaru and Akira play?

The translation of one of the sections of that site says:

Quote:
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of this anime, we plan to develop a project that will reach not only fans from that time, but also people who can become new fans on this
occasion. Please enjoy it.

Sounds like there is something fairly big incoming!

It was nice to see that they acknowledge it had a far wider impact in other counties other than Japan. I'm excited to see what they will announce.

Side note: Looking at the manga section of my local Barnes and Noble bookstore yesterday, I found three copies of volume #2 of the USA Viz series. No other volumes on the shelf. The title page indicates first printing 1998 and the current eighth printing 2019.

That's staying power but I was hoping Viz would offer something for the fans like multi-volume bound sets, a color edition, or behind-the-scenes interviews and documentation. Maybe at the 25th anniversary?

I still remember discovering Hikaru no Go by accident in Shounen Jump back when I was a child. Then I discovered Go on Yahoo. And eventually much later on I discovered Go Discussions and KGS. Feels like it was just yesterday. I hope they reboot it as well. Would be awesome.

Akira must be Meijin and Hikaru must be Honinbo.

As for other characters... I wonder if finally Nase or Fuku became pro. Is Akari a strong amateur?

I was rewatching it when I made this post. One interesting snippet was the Korean players were discussing the devine move. One said it would be made on a computer and the other laughed and said that was a century away. Little did they realize it would be far sooner and a Korean pro that would lose.

Love hearing the discussion on what could be coming with the announcement. I'm glad I'm not the only one with fond memories of this anime

Online playing schedule: A schedule..? When hell freezes over... maybe. ^^;
Today some very minor "information" was published:

Quote:

Which, according to DeepL.com translates to:

Quote:
TV anime "Platinum End" x TV anime "Hikaru no Go" collaboration illustration revealed!
TV anime "Platinum End" starts broadcasting on October 7th! And to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TV anime "Hikaru no Go", we've released a collaboration illustration!
The poster will be on display at the TV anime "Platinum End" POP UP SHOP, which is open from today, so please come and see it!

Platinum End is a manga by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Oba about a boy who grows up with his aunt and uncle after his parents' death. Since they don't like him, he wants to commit suicide by jumping off a building. He is stopped by his very own guardian angel, Nasse, who from then on tries to improve on his life. She also reveals to him that his aunt and uncle are responsible for his parents' death.

The illustration (I attached it since I wasn't able to include it in this post) published along with the news is a crossover and shows Nasse with Sai, Isumi and Hikaru.

This can't be it yet.. Will they really make us wait another 9 days...? I hope there really will be something worth looking forward to, else...

No, no... Isumi and Hikaru married. That's the wedding photo, with their cupids.

Take care...

Yeah, I really hope there will be more to it than a special. I figure the biggest announcement (if there is one) will be on the day of the anniversary.

It's an anime that has nothing to do with Hikaru no Go unfortunately. I did find this information about it from MyAnimeList though.

Quote:
After the death of his parents, a young Mirai Kakehashi is left in the care of his abusive relatives. Since then, he has become gloomy and depressed, leading him to attempt suicide on the evening of his middle school graduation. Mirai, however, is saved by a pure white girl named Nasse who introduces herself as a guardian angel wishing to give him happiness—by granting him supernatural powers and a chance to become the new God.

In order to earn the position, he must defeat 12 other "God Candidates" within 999 days. Soon, Mirai begins a struggle to survive as a terrifying battle royale erupts between himself and the candidates looking to obtain the most power in the world.

Aaaaand the next pop-up shop has been announced today, open from 30 October. There'll be new merch with new drawings (did anybody else have a hard time to recognise Isumi...? The clothes just don't suit him that well IMHO ^^; ). Looks like they expect many people to show up as the tickets for the entry to the shop will be available through a lottery. The details can be found here: https://www.medicos-e.net/newsdetail/hikarunogo/
I can't say the merch is REALLY that appealing to me, maybe the tote bag and the shirts, but that's about it for me. Lucky me, since I can't get my hands on any of the stuff anyway.

So far, nothing special... However, I definitely expect something big in 5 day's time, now that they keep watering our mouths. If it's only pop-up shops in Japan, I'll be extremely disappointed - and that's something to say, I'd already be REALLY happy if the anime would be available on Netflix here in Germany... or any big streaming service in Europe.

Well, they posted this video on the site. From what I can tell the message at the beginning says. "Is it my voice you can hear?" It may not be correct I used google translate to help with the kanji I dont know.

"Can you hear my voice?" (which was one of the first things Sai said to Hikaru)

Then later in the video "Sai was here to connect a distant past to a distant future"
