magicwand became 5D

Post by Magicwand »

i just won a game in kgs and became 5D !!!
finally...i set my goal.
now i will go after 6D

it was not a good game for me but white made a mistake and put his dragon in danger.
and he still had chance but didnt have enough time to think.

i think it is exciting game to review.. if someone post my game for me.

Congrats, Magicwand!

( It seems he missed opportunities to make it a more competitive game with A10 )

Congratulations Magicwand! This is quite an accomplishment.
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

We are peers, but I can share a few thoughts. :)

I think that White should have sacrificed the corner.
move 62 peep on left side..white should have connected. right?
That's my feeling, too.
white 74 white didnt expect me to tenuki and take a stone on top.. his mistake..
I think so.

A few comments. :)

@Bill: Thanks for posting that. How much do we have to pay you to play a Malkovich game against MW, with explainations like that on most of the moves?

W74 at B12 would have killed the black stones for some cash and leaving the big black group unsettled, wouldn't it? I really can't believe how white forced black to connect (or live), taking a little territory, just to sacrifice this territory for the ko, some seconds later.

After B12, if Black pushes out with D7 then White can connect after playing and sacrificing a stone at E7 afaik. (You can't really fight the ko then, but even if you don't play B12 instantly you probably don't want to waste that aji the way white did in the game in gote.) Hope this is correct, but would be happy with mistakes being pointed out.

After W B-12, B B-11. Over to you, Mr. Magic. :)

Thanks for the comments, Fredrik!

I think you switched White and Black in your final comment at some places, though. I tried to correct that in the following quote; is that what you meant?
White just died.

It seemed White overplayed when he made the invasion on the bottom but he handled it very nicely.

Black played some shape-mistakes on the leftside, which made the group in the center rather strong and White took a firm territorital lead.

Black tried to make something happen by making a ko at top, however it kind of backfired and the game seemed lost. But Black kept on fighting, trying to create a chance for himself and he managed very nicely.

I think for weaker players, White's play in this game is a very nice lesson. Even though you lead most part of the game, even one mistake can cost you the whole game and it happens quite frequently for all of us. So it's important to try and figure out your opponents plan and protect when you need to protect. Also, if you are behind you should not just give up but keep on having fighting spirit and try to create the opportunity as Black did in this game!
A good system naturally covers all corner cases without further effort.
