Post by xgenra »

im sure even the chinese played this game...
everytime stones are taken hostage, the one who took them has to drink the same amount of shots. the one that lost them drinks one shot.
something to think about on the next go congress after were done with the official playing.

There would be no survivors left after the final half-point ko fight.

I don't know, this seems to encourage sacrifice plays and generally atrocious openings.

I'd personally play the other way, such that the person who loses a lot of stones has to drink the most.

Usually the point is to make the game even, so the one capturing needs to lose something in return.

This reminds me of a story I recently heard at one of the tournaments I went to (no Idea if it's true)

There apparently exists a version of go calls 1000-Volt-go where if you play a white stone all black stones get pulled towards you and all white stones get repulsed. Anyway, the saga goes that one player misunderstood the theme of the game and actually build a go board where you would get shocked every time you played a stone. There was a roughly 1 second window every 5 seconds where you could play a stone, but taking of capture stone was impossible in that window and led invariably to getting shocked. The game quickly developed into a contest who could sacrifice more stones
While I was teaching the game to a friend of mine, my mother from the other room:
"Cutting? Killing? Poking out eyes? What the hell are you playing?"
