Seems to me white is the one who is heavy. White has to work hard to live or make some kind of sabaki. Maybe it's just personal preference, as I said. Do you think this is substantially worse?

Well, thats the only kick thats worth considering of course; the other one is unplayable.
I still don't like it; because while I agree that things look tough for White locally, it seems very hard for Black to fix his left side group if White somehow stabilizes. The big thing that bothers me is that White has c1, and its harder for black to give up D3 after playing J2.

Two reasons. First, neither kick felt like it did me any good. There are too many weaknesses in my shape. The second is more of a feeling. I seem to lose a lot of my games lately by neglecting central power. This game, I've been trying to keep that central power in favourable balance for myself. It may be the wrong way to play this game, but it's different from my typical play style and is a good learning experience.

I could try to live on the side, allowing for him to have some forcing moves against my bottom stones. Or, I could sacrifice my bottom stones, and hurt Q4 stone.
I'm not really sure which path I like better, yet.

In a slightly different situation (marked black stones were a little stronger, marked white a little weaker, a bit earlier in the game) this is often the right move (KGS+ lecture a few months ago, I'll try to look it up). This approach meshes a bit better with the idea that non-contact moves are for attacking. I'll edit in the exact diagram given when I find the KGS+ lecture (I think it was from Guo Juan's series on ponnuki).

i am not claiming that my move is correct. i am giving my opinion and first instinct on a situation. i am only 4 or 5 d kgs. which i s very weak..
