i'm wondering who that 12k was, maybe he wasnt a 12k at all, mind posting that game?

Kgs has a lot of sandbaggers so maybe you encountered one.

Playing lots of games is good and yeah you're probably right that paying attention is vital to playing a good game, just remember that every move is equally important and you will do fine:)

At 10k, you forget to kill killable groups
At 8k, you try to kill unkillable groups. It's worse :)

3 areas of focus
Test room wbaduk
Replay pro games
Play 1000 games

I'm still on the smartgo 4k tsumego these are not much harder than the 5k same patterns basically

in getting use to playing everyday any time when I can't  play in watching games so I am also becoming fans of some of the high-dans in KGS, it's growing on me I'm on KGS all the time now,
KGS plus rocks so much info
So little time

I try to go over a pro game everyday after work on my board
With smartgo books it's helpful and motivating because I play games right after

I'm going to be doing some work out of town so it's about time to get a laptop

The main thing I have been out of touch with is the test room on the wbaduk homepage I use to do it all the time but I have been busy, I gotta remind myself to do it regularly so it can become a habit

I'm doing good with my other habits I.e.  smartgo tsumego sets, smartbooks pro games,
Live games

Now that I'm not going down in rank no more i can get back to studying, I had to fight the rust off my game lol,

taking breaks from live games and just studying and doing tsumego got me out my groove, but now I got my mojo back,

it was me mainly not paying attention and the emotional tension from losing streaks it was very destructive to my game

Something that help me was reading hushfields journal and he says something like staying calm and thinking clear, it reminded me of the zen lectures I was reading, and to grow naturally in my go like a tree by a river

On the American side I can hear the football coach saying stop being a $&#% and walk it off, so I think playing through my losing streak helped to

I'm going to the test room see ya

I'll post my results I'm thinking of doing 100 questions per session passing will be 95% starting from the ground up, anybody who wants to do it with me post your results here, I like the competition

Well back to the program

Im always on Yoo Chang hyuk's Life and death classes and its just plain ol fun!

if you pay attention to the yoo changhyuk's ranking of life and death
im number 43 at 28552 Points and climbing!

thats been my tsumego vent, the wbaduk homepage has been pretty buggy lately, it was going to be my tsumego vent, maybe its becasue of this new windows 7 because it worked fine on my xp; but im having too much fun doing yoo's tsumego so i don't mind, i like getting my score up :rambo:

im going through Breathrough attacking power by Yamashita Keigo, i already finished catching scent of victory and the way of creating a thick and strong game, so im enjoying going though the heart of go series n smartgo books, i play the games out on the actual board and use auto play for varations- makes for a smooth review and exciting play by play battle

i play mainly on kgs, i just downloaded tygem yesterday that makes the only other go seerver on my laptop, mon - thurs is really slow as far as time to study because of work, but im redidcating myself to play at least 3 games a day

i do tsumego everyday apps make it fun and easy to do no matter where you are at!

i just wont be able to study pro games until i get to my go board on friday, i can watch lectures to make up for it but i have been watching lectures all last week between kgsplus and internetgoschool im pooped! Besides i need to play more, just play more go has the most votes in the improvement poll on this thread and i been slacking

so after my 3 games if i have time i will watch a lecture

i strongly belive im improving, i have to remind myself in games to think about influence, direction, invasion, enclosing and all kinds of stuff but when i play my best game i feel 3 stones stronger, practice makes perfect
Image

my main 3 things i focused on is

1.tsumego
2.playing 1000 quality games
3.study pro kifu

:study:

Tygem is great,
its just like wbaduk to me, wbaduk was my first love
Tygem has alot of people on 24/7 so its super easy to get a game going
thats the main reason i chose it to be my secondary server

i haven't been playing it as much as kgs though
ever since i got the kgs app i been on it
i have been watchin the kgs plus lectures,
and im addicted to growing my account

not to mention english is a big help :D

quick update

my tsumego is going great
im in 22th place in the rankings
on the yoo's life and death app

and i have been playing my 3 games a day after work

im going home tommrow so i will be next to my go board replaying some pro games, im still on breathrough attackin power by yamishta keigo

Go Dan! :study:

Well I have been sticking to my routine
My study plan is
1) Tsumego
2) Live games
3) Pro kifu

Tsumego:

Yoo Chang hyuk’s Life and death classes
Since I hit the advance 1 sections it’s a lot more challenging
Sometimes I even run out of time
But when I run out of time I just check the answer and then move on to the next problem

Sometimes when I’m in my zone I solve a lot of problems right my first try and that builds my confidence in my go

At first I was intimidated by the advance problems since they are like 7 stone sequences but when I pay attention and focus I’m doing pretty well, I’m glad I’m not sucking, & I’m actually holding my own in the advance section and I can feel it in my games my reading is sharper

I’m in 24th place with 94426 points on the global rankings

Live Games:

I have been trying to get 3 games in everyday, sometimes I only get one game depended on how good the game is

I joined the Kyu study group so now I can get more involved w/ group study and getting reviews from stronger players, they have a coaching system set up and I plan on taking advantage of it, they have skds there that help with teaching too & I hope to get more quality games and good reviews out of it

Pro Kifu:

I haven’t been on smartgo books in the last week but I have been making up with it w/ lectures from internetgoschool.com and kGS plus.

My free trail on KGS plus expired but I immediately renewed my subscription, I like the lectures and I want to fight for a crown :rambo:

well i want a crown so i must get stronger :study:

Well I have been deep in my studying and it has been great
It feels like when you first start working out and you can see you six-pack coming in, it’s exciting!

My regime:
Tsumego
Pro kifu
Live games

For tsumego I have been going through Yoo’s life & death as explained in my prev. post
As far as my online ranking I’m in 24th place with 106770 points. So far I did a total of 1,500 problems. I only have 300 problems left & I’m on the last level which is advance 2.

For pro kifu- I’m big on lectures in kGS plus and the internet go school – I call it go TV
I also go through smartgo books; I’m still on breakthrough attacking power by Yamashita Keigo
I’m just taking my time soaking it all in.

Live games: KGS
It’s about time I rank-up lately it has been too easy at 10k, my rank graph is at the breaking point back to the 9k and my reading is much better even if I have to say so myself LOL

:study:

Go is my game man,
I played in my first tournament today thanks to kGS plus,
I lost both games; I lost the second out of pure frustration
But losses equal growth and a chance to learn something
I got a good game review in the study room, and bounced backed
And learned that I gotta control my emotions better

I tapped out on Yoo’s life and death on the android
The advance 2 section is a beast
So I’m switching back to the iPhone for tsumego

I watch a lecture every day from the internet go school

I play at least one game daily on KGS or Tygem

Honestly I think I found out the secret to getting strong
If I could put it in a pill I would have
1.) Tsumego
2.) Live games & reviews
3.) Lectures
With game reviews & pro lessons in abundance & tsumego for downtime, u can’t help but to improve

So I’m pretty much done posting for the time being, when I hit 8k I will give u guys a update
A crown is within my reach so I got stuff to do
See u at the top
Everything I need to reach my goals is available, so there nothing else to do but go to work
:study:

I made it to 8k hence me posting

(I made a vow not to post until I rank up)

I haven’t had that much time to play; I have just been watching lectures on internetgoschool.com and working.

Now that I have more time on my hands I can get more time invested in my go.

So my daily study regime now is

Lecture (KGS+)
Ranked Game – (KGS)
Tsumego (Wbaduk)
Ranked Game (KGS)
Lecture (internetgoschool.com)
Ranked Game (KGS)
Tsumego (Wbaduk)
Ranked Game (KGS)

also on the side i will be studying:
bruce wilcox's go dojo (contact fights and sector lines)
the go world archive,
and fundamental principles of go by Yilun Yang.

I might not be able to finish my list daily (Life happens) but that’s the process by which I will go about my study as long as I’m off work

Well as u can see I have work to do :study:

I want the crown
:rambo:

The best lectures from internetgoschool in my opinion are:

Middle game training and opening training:
first u download the sgf file complete the exercises, then watch the lecture

The correct way of using basic joseki-
it has awesome variations and IMO is a good overveiw of whole board thinking in joeski

all about the star point
i learned alot of new joseki here, its not boring like i thought joseki study would be

all about the 3-4 point
the 3-4 is aweome, after watching these u would love playing the 3-4 point, and a good way to punish weaker players mistakes in joseki

p.s. they got a whole section on punishing opponents mistakes under POM in joseki

all about attacking
i watched these first because i love attacking

all about invasion
ming jiu is amazing he has the most simple way to do everything

and invasion for kyu players
gou juan is more easier to understand than mingjiu so maybe check out these before u go on to ming jiu

and the direction of play lectures
direction of play gave me so many ideas i mean direction of play is key to winning any game

i really love the pro games
i.e. grandmaster games of go seigen
and koren master games of yi se-tol
the regulare pro games are good too

i could go on and on about internet go school

i started off with attacking and common openings like the chinese opening and the san ren sei but after that i just study where i see weakness in my game, so thats fundamentals & joseki,

using the lecture by level tab is good too

i hope that helps

Thanks. You definitely have piqued my interest in some of these courses. I think the ones on middle game, attacking, and invading would interest me a lot.

The coolest thing happened while i was doing tsumego on wbaduk under my alter ego Myoshu.

Svetlana 3DP asked me to play a game, & who couldn't turn down the opportunity to play a pro.

He was playing 3 games at once, and smashing everyone with brute force.

I was so amped i could run around the house full speed singing happy happy joy joy!

but no time for playing around, i had to sit and focus.

At first i wanted to play solid and then i remember something i read somewhere, (i read to much i cant remember where i read it) but its something like when playing handicap games your main goal should be to kill sensei's stones. so thats what i went for :rambo:

i made a few obvious mistakes where its like u want to slap yourself 2 seconds after u move because you should know better

but all in all it was so much fun

i never felt pressure like that before i was very nervous,
very very nervous but i think my excitment outweighed my nervousness

its not like a tournamnet type of pressure, its like a kill the pro type of pressure
everyone wants to beat a pro :rambo: :rambo:

i will post the game up for reveiw.
i dont know what wrong with my sgfs on my thread they use to work
ill just post the game in game review until i figure out whats going on here

all my sgfs are showing up as text hmmmn

:study:
