I would use them to sponsor local go events. Also I would buy some good quality digital clocks to our club and electronic game recorder and online broadcaster.

I would feel quite irresponsible if I spent $10,000 on go. Perhaps even selfish - almost like blowing money on a huge party, while others go hungry...

But if there was no choice but to spend it on go, I might try to buy out the copyrights of a few out-of-print go books, then turn around and place the books in the public domain. (Though this would probably require something more like $100,000.)

Books (following topazg's plan) and lessons, and I would try to bribe yoyoma to run more Texas tournaments

$10k for go would go first toward an AGA lifetime membership and then probably a couple years worth of private lessons. Realistically I have all the books I would ever *need* (but that does nothing to stop me from *want*ing more!)

Also breakfast's Insei League.

Although a few local tournaments with $500 - $1k top prizes (advertised in local Korean restaurants and churches maybe) sounds like a good idea...

I'd add it to the prize money for Ing at Congress. It might be enough to attract some strong Asian pros.

Do that once or twice more (so 80 or 160k) and you may have enough to start propositioning sponsors for a U.S. Pro Organization. :)

My problem more lack of time than lack of money. Since 10,000 is not enough to quit my job, it cannot buy me time.

Therefore, if I have to spend it on go, I would send my nephew or my daughter (if she is interested in future of course) to japan for a summer course.

I'd grab a TV spot on a local channel and advertise the game. Furthermore, I'd make the ad as mysterious and convoluted as possible, to get people asking "What the &%*$ was that?"

10k isn't enough to do what I would want to do.

1 mil is probably the absolute minimum to buy a large enough residence suitably close to an agreeable pro and start a live-in go boarding school. It'd require two or three pros or extremely strong amateurs, willing students, and probably a bunch of insurance and legal requirements I'd rather not think about. But it would be awesome.

But they would have to be citizens of the US, Canada or Mexico to play under current rules.

Anyway, not enough to do much on its own, I would give it to the AGF...and maybe support a local tournament and buy an AGA Life membership with the tax deduction.

I'd spend all of it on KGS Plus memberships for me, my friends, and random strangers. :)

OK, seriously, if I had $10,000 that could only be spent on go, and nothing else, I think then I think the "set up a tournament with this as prize money" idea is a fun one.

I would spend it all on go software . (I can then hire a real programmer to help me to write the program i am dreaming of.

See:

I would organize a tournament, with a nice location, Bonus timing, Ikeda rules.

But i guess i first need to pay off my debts :grumpy:

I had a similar idea with a famous newspaper. The first ad explains the game and after that one tsumego per week as a competition.

Totally put it into lessons, although it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a nicer set of stones and board to show off. :)
