For what it's worth, I was surprised to see

. It seems like it's played in a very small area. Sure, it puts some pressure on the black groups and kind of sets up the scene for the fight on the right but I feel white didn't get as much from it as he wanted to.

The semi-finals this year are still best-of-3?

This is the second time Ichiriki does well in the international tournaments. Last year in the MLily cup, he was the only Japanese player to reach the 3rd round.

White 34 aims amongst other things for N15 follow up.
White should not be afraid to respond to the black ladder breaker D5 with just C4.

So far, yes. I don't know if the further rounds will be. If they are several months away maybe they keep the decision open.

Thanks for your answer.
Anybody else took a closer look at Zhao Chenyu's games yet?

Semifinal Game 1:
Xie Ke beat Ichiriki Ryo
Shin Jinseo beat Zhao Chenyu
Both games were similar in the sense that both losing players started out well and were up big at one point (Zhao even more so than Ichiriki), but both were short on time, and the unique Ing Cup rule of penalizing/trading points for time tilted the games back in Xie and Shin's favor.

Both Shin and Xie won Game 2 to advance to the final.
Xie is also promoted to 9p with his second final in major international tournaments, both coming this month.
