I agree with others. Aside from not having KGS (without using virtualization), the iPad is fantastic, and I think a great size (9.7" I think). Also, iPads have SmartGo, which I don't believe is available for Android (again, without using virtualization).

So Android = KGS, iPad = SmartGo. There are other applications available for one and not the other, but I think KGS and SmartGo are my two favorite apps--unfortunately there isn't a device that runs both natively.

I don't like using a stylus myself, but some prefer it.

Well, a Windows tablet should be able to handle both of those (and the full desktop versions, no less). :P

That's pretty much how I use my netbook. :)

Granted. But then you're stuck with a Windows tablet :)

Haha, yeah. :)

I have a (2008 I think) Toshiba convertible tablet PC with Vista. The screen is only touch responsive to the stylus, and the case is an inch thick, and weighs a few pounds. The battery is only good for about half an hour, so I also have to carry around the power cord. Still, with OneNote, it is the single greatest notetaking device at my disposal.

I tried using my Xoom for notes, but it's nowhere near the same level. As far as random media consumption, the mobile OS's (Android & iOS) are better, but for shear power, a Windows tablet can't be beat (especially if you take the time to configure it for your particular use cases).

I have an iPad and I use the TengenGo app specifically for iPad. It works very well. There is an Undo function in case of slippage or misclicks. It works with the IGS server and it also stores SGF files on an easy to use "Record" function. You can also email the SGF files from the iPad to your desktop.

On my iPhone I use the Pandanet Tetsuki app as well as SmartGo. Both work great although I like the gameplay interface of SmartGo better.

I agree with the majority of users on this thread though: playing on a tablet is as close as you can get, digitally, to an actual board and stones. I love the fact that I just have to tap the screen and the sound of the stones on the board is replicated perfectly. My TengenGo app allows you to place your finger and then slide it and it even replicates the sound of the stone sliding on the board! Pretty awesome. (and it only cost me $3.99 whereas SmartGo Kifu is $19.99)

I am new to the game and I only have a crappy $20 board with tiny stones and my girlfriend and I would rather play using the head-to-head function on the TengenGo app on my iPad, that is until I get a full size board and good stones :-)

IPad is the only good option: Tygem, WBaduk, SmartGo, PandaTetsuki, KGS via special app. Go developers just made their decision. Only WMS is thinking different ;)

I'd rather be different then too. :)

IGS and KGS are both accessible. I hope Tygem and Wbaduk head there eventually, but I don't mind if they don't.

Sure, it's common thing, you always like what you have.
Btw, I prefer Asian servers, less chitchat, more games & pro players.

I have to say that right now, the KGS app for android is quite near from perfection. Still, there are a few features many tablet users would like to see :

-Possibility to review finished games
-Reading/sending messages
-Possibility to play a move with 1 tap
-Player profiles
-Review tools

Any of those features are realistic/planned ?

Four of the five are definites, but may not come soon - review finished games, messages, profiles, and review tools. In general I hope to eventually have all client functionality in the pad, and some subset (based on what can fit into a 4" screen) in phones. They will come slowly though, I would say at LEAST 2 years before the android client has caught up to the java one. It could go faster but I have other things I need to do on KGS, you can check these forums for what they are.

One-touch moves is still a maybe. I'm worried about reliability. No touch screen is completely reliable, it's an even bigger problem than mouse slipping, and if it drives your opponents nuts with misclicks then I don't want the feature enabled. This is the easiest of your feature requests to do, which is why it's the one I'm not sure of - if I was sure I wanted the feature, it would have been there from the start.

It looks as if a seven inch Amazon Android tablet is on the way based on what I have been reading.

I have also heard that it is going to have an Amazon Android App store and that you won't be able to install apps outside of that app store.

So my question is this. Will Android KGS be offered in the Amazon App store?

If what they say about this tablet is true it will be tempting. They say it will be about 300 bucks, and that it will come with a free Amazon Prime membership, probably a year.

Right now I don't support the amazon app store. If the amazon tabs, without the Google store, become popular, I may have to change that...but I'd rather not. It will be a pain in the neck to have to update two app stores for each release, and I'll have to do separate builds for each since the two apps stores have different protection systems. :(

I'll go ahead and say I'm sorry for you. My bet is that it will almost immediately be the second best selling tablet, by a good sized margin.
