Well, at least it's the board. But rage not, it's not like the guys didn't know anything about board games. That crazy guy in the anime plays with different board game stones on different boards, all mixed up.

edit: eww, sorry for the file sizes.
edit2: note how both black and white emphasize influence over territory

I just finished this series, it was a lot of fun. It was also cool was like "now they are in check... or is it atari?"

Nice! :) Is the episode available on the TV network's website?
On a related note, IBM's Watson vs. top Jeopardy players for US$1,000,000 will be aired on Feb 14,15,16, 2011: :)

TRON Legacy... go see it, Flynn plays go! I'll see if I can find a screencap

From Olivia wilde, who plays "Quorra": http://www.timesunion.com/entertainment ... 901194.php

Q: Is there a hidden, nerdy Olivia Wilde?

A: (laughs) I don't think it's hidden at all. There's one scene -- I'm showing Sam around the safe house and I show him a game of Go. That was my nerdy idea because Go is the one game that humans consistently beat computers at. (Takes on excited nerd voice) "We should have something about Go, because people who know about it will know computers can't beat humans and it'll be this cool reference to what humans can do that computers can't." So we had that line where I say, "Flynn usually beats me." I think that people who know might get a little bit of a chuckle out of that.

Olivia Wilde who plays Quorra wrote:..."That was my nerdy idea because Go"... "what in Buddhism is referred to as "the beginner's mind"... "Jeff Bridges' own Zen master, Bernie Glassman"

It's not unusual to hear about Go and Zen Buddhism in the same conversation. But once we are told that the conversation is an interview to promote the newest Hollywood blockbuster, that is unexpected!

We should definitely extend a complementary invite to Olivia Wilde the next US Go Congress. :P (am I joking, or maybe just dreaming?).

Thanks for the link Shapenaji. I Already had plans to see the film tonight - but this is a whole aspect I would have otherwise missed out on.

For anyone that missed it - Daft Punk does the entire musical score to Tron Legacy.

Made a screencap (attached below, for anyone who wants to look at it) of the scene in Tron: Legacy, and sent it to the AGA E-Journal: "Here's a screencap of the board position. (I saw the movie in theaters, but had to use an online version to make this) It definitely looks like an actual amateur game (also doesn't match any pro games in my database), with 103 moves, black to play. White seems to have an overwhelming lead in territory, especially with black's top left group having only one eye. There's some aji in the bottom left, and I think black's corner group there can live in gote, but the moyo potential on the right is too thin. The black stone on the edge of the top right corner seems to have been moved a line, as I'm guessing it was originally an atari."

@lindentree: hope there's no copyright issue :)
when i watched movie, that scene was stunning. nothing beats a futuristic looking go board.

Yeah, I did think there might be a copyright issue.... I'll edit my post, if an admin thinks it's a problem.

You're ok. I think this qualifies under the 'review' clause.

A Go board is seen in Season 1, Episode 12 of "Tower Prep" (airs on Cartoon Network) at around 27 minutes into it.

It's not main stream in the sense that it's on a music video or anything but the audience is anyone who watches BBC news.

I have no clue where this picture is from, but there appears to be a smaller-sized go board in between them.
