I use twitter...

...as an example to describe the decline of western civilization and illiteracy of the youth, and in similar grumpy old man rants on other websites where 140 characters is considered a reasonable length for an introductory sentence. :grumpy:

Used it briefly when it first came out.... Decided there were far better ways to use technology to communicate, "twitter: it's like status updates on gchat or Facebook, but without gchat and Facebook"

To many people, including myself, that's what makes it useful.

Twitter is not necessarily a replacement for other forms of communication, but a supplement. Humans thrive on communication, and its clear to me at least that twitter fills a need.

There are innumerable remarkable uses, but just one is the ability to communicate, in a bidirectional fashion, with the famous and/or powerful. In the past, all communication from them to us was mediated via PR, and communication from us to them was impossible. One interesting consequence of this is that we can see the extent to which our idols have feet of clay - we can see their poor spelling, their prejudices, their ignorance, their intolerances, etc. laid bare in front of us.

Some people need to flip the bird, too. And, while I will grant them that it is a form of communication, some needs do not require fulfilling. :)

"And, while I suppose it is a form...", or "And, while it is a form..."

Omit words.

Nah, the first one indicates opinion whereas the second implies fact. :geek:

You're right about the difference, and I think it makes the second better.

I'm BaghwanB on Twitter as well. Mostly tweet random comments/musing, local Occupy coverage, and occasionally retweet stuff that catches my eye. No surprise that my main saved searches are for baduk, nethack and occupydenver.

I don't use Twitter (yet)... I always thought it was just a gigantic spam machine but it looks like I may have been wrong. Still I find it strange to use it just to speak with friends (many do that).
