At that time I was creating a list of Armenian cities with their current and historical names, one of it being "Karaklis" (the current name is "Vanadzor"), and since I liked that name, I used it as replacement for the originally intended one.
Neat! I must make me myself such a list.

Just the short version of my name (my first name and the first two letters of my last). On KGS, I long used that as my account name, but changed some years ago because my account was so overloaded with games that I wasn't going anyplace. I chose Dogen for my KGS name, not for the go player but for the founder of Soto Zen.

My name's history is kind of boring: Mic is short for Michael. Unfortunately, it's taken on most forums, but for some reason I had the incredible luck to get it on KGS and here on L19²

Cheers,
Mic(hael)

A lot of my friends used to be skateboarders. When I got this nick the first time, I had never fallen off a skateboard*. I have since fallen off, but I kept the name.

Back at GoDiscussions forum i used 'Revival' since i´m into the starcraft pro scene in korea and i think its cool name. Here i picked 'Rafa' because its a short version of my name and its what everyone calls me.

I use this handle because I'm unimaginative when it comes to names.

Usually I have to add "316" to the end of it when I register. The 316 is the number that Hotmail suggested to me when I registered for my email address there (which I still use): marcus316-at-hotmail.com ... I registered the email address sometime in the mid-nineties, I believe.

My name is a play on words with these two meanings:
1) Playing go in the mountains (like "beach volleyball"). I love the outdoors and seeing beautiful sights in nature, so the idea of silently playing go with someone on the top of a mountain is pure bliss to me.
2) In the card game Magic: The Gathering, there is a well-known type of deck called Blue Control (blue = one of the five colors of magic in Magic; control = based on a defensive strategy). It is jokingly known as Island Go, because that is what someone says on their turn while playing it: They announce that they are playing an Island (the basic source of blue mana), do absolutely nothing else on their turn (because it's a defensive deck and usually only reacts during its opponent's turn) and then say "go" as in "it's your turn". Well, the basic resource of red mana in the game is a Mountain. The idea of making a deck called Mountain Go sounds like some kind of noob concoction since red is the fastest, most aggressive color in magic, requiring the opposite strategy from blue control. And when I created the name several months ago for KGS, I was new to the game of go. The end!
I since occasionally regret picking this name because it sounds corny to have the word "go" in a username, but I don't want to change KGS accounts and I want my username on go websites to match my KGS name, so I'm basically stuck with it. Still, I usually like it, and I can get behind the idea of being corny.

I was young and needed a nick.
(It was for the german Shadow Warrior league, about 13 or 14 years ago.)

I wanted to get a second account on KGS for playing when I am really tired, or generally not in a mood for playing seriously... So I named it DeadTired. Later, I realized I am tired all the time, and this is the only account I am using. I lost my original account because of inactivity since, and someone else has it now

The name is not inspired by the movie Commando in any way --- I was not aware of the quote (`don't disturb my friend. He's dead tired') until someone pointed it out.

Mine is my last name. I'm so very imaginative when it comes to thinking up awesome user names.
Had to use schultzs (first initial of my first name there on the end) for a while on KGS since schultz was taken, but it has since freed itself up and I swooped in on it!

Use it for pretty much all gaming (that allow non-unique names), since it's never available being one of (if not the) most common German surname (I'm American if that got confusing there at all).
For other usernames I've gone by: back in the CS days started out using "noobie", went to "poddy" when I got a little better, then switched to "insane-rusher" to match my actual play style.

Now you all know way more information than you ever needed to know...

This thread reminded me how bad my username is/was. CheeseNPickle. So I've re-registered as CnP (hope this is okay). I used to like the sandwich (before I had it nearly every day for two years) and always wanted to get asked "if you were a sandwich what sort of sandwich would you be?" at a job interview. My avatar is usually an owl. - I think they're a neat type of bird, top predators but that people often think are cute. Makes a perfect avatar for KGS I think. I'm also a fan of twin peaks.

I've been curious about this subject too!
I am extremely interested in introducing Go to Western culture, I think of myself as a kind of "Johnny Appleseed." I'm told that "Kibi" is a legendary figure in Japan, a minister to the Emperor who visited China, learned Go, and brought it back to Japan.
I'm also curious about the many evocative noms de plume that we see here.

316 is accidental?? All this time I have been assuming that you were an evangelical Christian.
