Something that needs to be gotten over, definitely. I know I used to feel like this when I was striving for a new rank ... I don't anymore. If I lose, I lose ... and I try to learn something from it. Besides, games are more interesting if you step outside your comfort zone, and you learn how to deal with a larger range of situation s on the board.

Oh yeah, and I've joined the group.

As far as I know, this thread is all we have so far, but stay tuned :D

Interesting point. Personally I am not too bothered, but I suppose a way to solve this issue would be by balancing ranked games with free games on KGS.

Perhaps the GD/L19 room could suffice, but getting our own room is definitely worth considering, especially if we get more people interested.

I don't think it needs its own room. It's not like the GD/L19 room is overflowing with chatter.

Very interested in this so I subscribed. My next goal is to become a 1D on KGS (3k actually) at the end of the year :D (maybe harder than I thought but I'll try till the end !)

Nice to meet you all

Friday evening is good for me (6pm GMT+1/UTC+1 ?). And I'm pro handicap-stones, because I need to learn to attack properly =D

I am not sure of how much time I can give. This time is probably good for me, too (7pm EET DST - 6pm CET DST).

Friday evenings are bad for me, but given that I won't be able to participate that much in the near future, don't worry about me if that time is good for others.

When I suggested Friday evenings I was referring to Pacific time, but as Fwiffo said, do as you wish. 7pm EEDT is 9am Pacific, and I will usually be unavailable at this time. As I mentioned earlier, if we can't find a time that works for everyone perhaps we could get two groups for different timezones.

I'm so erratic in my availability, it's best if I just check to see who's online when I am. :)

I think the first step for everyone should be to make a study plan, like what to read, how much to play, Tsumego amount et cetera.
It all sounds fun, meeting and discussion and so on, but I think to make this goal real (or sort of =D), more determination is needed and by doing a plan, one shows such determination.

Just my view of course ; ) What say you?

I'm stubbornly refusing to join the group until I've achieved my first goal (solid 5k), but I think the best thing the group could do is just play each other when possible, and do group reviews of the games played between its members. It seems that even if no one stronger is free to review, a group of similarly-ranked players can accomplish a lot by playing and looking at things together.

I tend to agree with SoDesuNe ... however, that would require actual time being available to me. :D Man, my schedule gets packed quickly.

Concerning a study plan, I can share what we are doing in my Go school in Paris. Morning we are doing 30 tsumegos in 30 min, 30min of pro game study (2 games choose by the teacher) and one hour lesson on a specific subject (semeai, joseki, fuseki...)
afternoon it's a tournament (45'+5'/20stones) and review of most of the game after this.
It's a one day program so maybe it can be rearrange to fit our possibilities !

Hey everybody, I am tentatively setting 6pm PDT Friday 6th of June as our first meeting, in the godiscussions.com room on KGS

Please come if you can, and bring about 5 of your favorite tsumego to share !

We`ll see how many people make it.

Sorry for the shortish notice.

PS: PDT is UTC-7.EDT is UTC-4. If you live in NZ like me, your time is UTC+12.

Since this is 2am for me, I probably won't be able to participate (and don't try to change the time for my account, I fully realize that accommodating everyone is not possible, and since most people are from other timezones I'm fine with it)

Perhaps saturday morning in some american time would be better? Oh well, we'll see how it goes. If there are enough people in opposing time zones, we could perhaps have two different meeting times.
