I think you meant my comment

yeah, I'm here this week for the pro tournament
and if I don't get to participate in an official L19 meetup... please stop by the EJournal staff room or Strong players room to say hi (if I'm not in the middle of broadcasting a game)
I'll most likely be in the EJ room tooooooooo.

Maybe we should just all swarm the EJ room on a particular day then.

Zero pros from the Nihon Ki-in as of now. (Mr. Ryo Maeda is of the Kansai Ki-in). What a surprise.
Does anyone have a record of the most recent US Go Congress without any Nihon Ki-in pro? Is this the first time?

I will be coming. Taking the family this year so we will see how that goes.

So, when should we do this?

I have never been able to attend -- too expensive.

did anyone get together a meeting last week? I saw several people I already knew. Don't know that I met anyone new -- oh, that's not true, I did meet a couple of new folk, but not from a scheduled meeting.

Judicata and I will be there. We were disappointed that "circumstances" did not allow us to hold our rengo challenge this year. Instead, I'm left deprived and looking forward to next year's hilarity.

This actually sounds like it would be extremely educational, and fun! I just feel like I'm too much of a "noob" to be a part of something like this.

The 2013 congress will be my first year attending, so I can't speak to how fun or educational it is. But one of the things I like the most about Go is the friendly community. No one is going to think poorly of you, or think that you are to weak to come to the congress. I'm sure you'll have fun if you came, and hopefully make some friends that would make it more fun to come again next year!

I can promise that your feeling (which is natural and we've all felt it) does not reflect what you will experience at Congress. A large part of the contingent at each Congress is new to Congress and even fairly new to go. The crowd is very welcoming.

I echo aokun's sentiment. But in the unlikely event that you
do run in to the odd-ball jerk/rude person, don't let it get to you. Such people are very much the exception.
There is no such thing as "too noob" for Go Congress.

Case in point - last time I was at USGC (Santa Barbara) there was a booth running every day trying to recruit new players from people on site for other things who happened to be walking by.

Turns out I'll only be there for Saturday and Sunday of congress. First non-full congress in six years.
