Interesting blog. Nice photos! About the rank conversion - Chinese ranks are most definitely not 2 weaker than European ones. In fact, I would say that they are at least equal, or perhaps higher. You're right that 6-dan is the highest for Chinese players, and it's extremely strong. 5-dan Chinese is quite strong as well, perhaps 5d-6d Europe (which goes to 7d).

In the meantime indeed I've understood the rank conversion a bit more and indeed my explanation was not correct.
This is what I understand now, correct me if I'm wrong.

The first number is the chinese rank, the second the european.

1d => 10k-2k
2d => 2k-1d
3d => 1d-2d
4d => 3d-5d
5d => 6d-7d
6d => 8d
