DrStraw, the being depicted in my avatar image is actually (uhm, supposed to be) a Bonobo. A friend of mine created it for me perhaps 15 years ago on my request, modeling from a few photos I showed her from the book “Bonobo, The Forgotten Ape” by Frans de Waal and Frans Lanting.

But bonobos have black faces, chimps have white faces.

42. Feel younger sometimes till I meet youths and realize I'm nothing like them, thank goodness.

22, and I feel older than everyone one within three years of my age; my older mature friends make me feel like I have not grown up yet.

38. An eight year old boy trapped in the body of a middle-aged man; climbing trees sure didn't use to be this hard.

Go is a little more dignified, but I still wish I had my eight-year-old brain to apply to it.

Middle-aged at 38? I did not start to think of myself as middle-aged until long after I reached 50. After all, I intend to live to be 100.

Well, it's a little over a week past - but time for an update in this thread. Hit that 3-0 mark.

At least now my wife can say we're the same age... at least for another month. Then it's back to teasing the old lady! ;) :D

Mid 40's. Does it affect my game you bet! When u learn it as an older person it does not come as easily.
I find lack of sleep or stress is the biggest factor to affect my game. A common occurrence in my life.

At the last US GO Congress there was a player there who stated he works with the over 40's to improve their games. There were quite a few laughs. One guy piped in what about over 60? He stated that at that age it is harder to get over the plateaus than when your younger.

Sadly I do not recall who it was. Perhaps someone on the list will know.

What were we talking about again?

As has been my custom since the start of L19, I'm bumping this thread on my birthday.

I'm 56. I feel like I'm...well...about 55. All I have to say is the same thing that I said last year. ( We old folks tend to repeat ourselves, you know. :D )

Last year, Joaz Banbeck wrote:... Never, ever trust your doctor.
( Modern medicine is very competent, but it has developed its own priorities. Keeping you happy and healthy is about 3rd or 4th on the list. Liability seems to be the primary concern. Making money is second. In many cases, propping up their egos is third. So it is up to you to look out for your own interests.
To do so, you need knowledge. Learn a bit about the basics. There are web sites run by reputable clinics like Johns Hopkins and Mayo.
When you visit a doctor, think of it like visiting a pro: you already know the basics, but you go for advice on the really complex matters or the latest discoveries. )
