I almost forgot about the post. Real life must have given him a kick in the pants. Hopefully we will see an update (or three) before long.

I hope it's ok to bump this, because I registered solely to thank logan for his amazing effort. Resources like these (and for free nonetheless) are invaluable to me and many others.

I don't know whether the topic of ranks in the more modern games has been discussed. I just skimmed the book of games with Rin Kaiho and found, at the beginning, games involving Rin before he became pro shodan. For example a 3h game between Rin and Go Seigen in which Rin's rank was 1k, and there is a 6h game, again with Go Seigen, with Rin's rank given as 6k. This kyu rank has little to do with the amateur kyu ranks. Inseis and pro students are given "pro" kyu ranks. An equivalence would go approximately pro 3k = amateur 6d, and this at a time when Japanese amateur ranks were comparable to EGF ranks.

Under https://homepages.cwi.nl/~aeb/go/games/games/index.html you'll find 46000+ games by Japanese pros. Today, 1374 of those are by Kato Masao. Turning these SGFs into PDFs, if that is what you want, is left as an exercise for the reader.

Here's a 1000 kifu collection for Choi Cheol-han.

In case anyone asks, the 'player who won' info was left off on purpose, spoilers are no good

Should keep you in study material for a few more years...

enjoy!

It seems the links stopped working. That's too bad :( I was hoping to start studying the games of Lee Changho.

Thank you to everyone who contacted me about the old Google Drive links no longer working and for all the kind messages over the years. (Although I do not intend to create any more collections in the near foreseeable future, as my interests and priorities are now elsewhere, anyone can make their own by using the resources listed in each document's Preface and acknowledgments section.) On the opening post to this thread, I've updated the links by providing a single Google Drive folder link to all PDFs. Doing so should make it easier for everyone to download and for me to update in the future.

Enjoy the games!
