David, thanks for your information, it makes things a lot clearer. I had a look at your website and it's excellent. I'll send you an email about some things.
Kirk, maybe that throwaway line was too ambiguous. What I meant is people still aren't confident and that causes them to miss even good opportunities. The economy needs a healthy business community to recover and small businesses count too. That's all I was saying.
What's wrong with go book publishers?

1) It depends on the player, how he starts reading books and how many he buys per order. For Joseki 2 and Capturing Races 1, 2nd to 5th time is possible for a retailer (or, if a player buys from different retailers, for a set of retailers) with many books. Neither is a "first beginner's book", of course.
2) Joseki 1 is more in the 1st to 3rd time range. It is also not a "first beginner's book" but not every player buys any "first beginner's book" - many players start with "second beginner's books" or even more advanced books.
3) A retailer having mostly beginner books creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yes the specifics may vary between people, but they don't diminish the main point, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Anyway, we'll get there, and we'll try to stock many more books later on (including yours Robert). Things are just going to take a bit longer this way...
