Re: How to celebrate new years as a SDK.
I'm still looking through the game, but there's one item that stands out, because it's a known corner shape, and killing it would have made thegame much closer (if not giving you the win outright). Here's the position at move 193:
The shape that White has just made (marked with
and
stones) is called the J group, and it can be killed by making a move at a. You even start the kill correctly, but you don't know the sequence. Here's one variation:
Since White cannot play at a, Black can falsify one eye, killing the group.
There are a ton of variations, of course. It takes a bit of study before you're comfortable with the shape and the killing variations.

Re: How to celebrate new years as a SDK.
Very angry with myself; after the approach/3-3 invasion in the north west I thought to myself, "Hah. I know this one", then promptly played on completely the wrong side rendering all you guys patient explanations of this sequence utterly moot.
Also frustrated that I missed 64 at C4.
17/100
I checked out the first pages of GGPFB Vol 2+3 and found the first few problems of 2 I could do pretty much on sight while I had to think for quite a while to get the Vol 3 ones so I will work through both. Vol 2 for speed and insta-recognition and Vol 3 much slower for reading practice.

Trying in-sgf comments. Also, you said northwest, but meant northeast. Just a few thoughts. Overall, the game was just fine.
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

Re: How to celebrate new years as a SDK.
Haven't played for a few days and felt a bit rusty despite having gained a stone in the meantime by simply sitting on my hands for a week still after this game I was still 13kyu so I feel I have officially broken that line on the graph. Go me.
I was a little bit confused about this 10k asking for 3 stones against me but I felt I held my own strategically but made some seriously foolish tactical errors that I simply shouldn't have.
I post it only as a record of my progress as I don't think the level of play on my part was of a high enough standard to make a review useful.

Yeah, that's a bit backward there. You should have received 3 stones from him. Perhaps he thought that the higher the number, the stronger?SinK wrote:Haven't played for a few days and felt a bit rusty despite having gained a stone in the meantime by simply sitting on my hands for a week still after this game I was still 13kyu so I feel I have officially broken that line on the graph. Or, he had seen you play and was very, very worried about how strong he thought you were.
For the record, I thought that you played fairly well considering the circumstances.
My plan to become an SDK is here.

Re: How to celebrate new years as a SDK.
I know you're not really digging for a review, but I'll point out a couple of thoughts.
7: This is a really urgent time to continue locally. C10 or C11 is normal, and works well with your top left stone. If black pincers, you have to heavy stones running and are in trouble. That said, I believe that black's G4 was too far, so you can also potentially follow up later at E4 to punish. Additionally, as far as the tenuki you chose, I prefer O3, because otherwise K3 looks good for black.
17: Makes your opponent stronger. Better to leave this move for when you need support in the area, so you're not helping your opponent unless you need it.
19: F16 is simpler, and works okay with your top. Something like G17 is also tempting, but it's weird and may be bad.
33: This move can be left out, because, though black could capture a stone, it would be small and gote. Better to take D10 or something.
87: P12 seems to work.
You did fine, your groups just got a bit too separated. 87 at P12 may have been enough to keep you from getting split so harshly. Good luck, and I look forwards to seeing the next one! If you can hold your own so well while giving somebody 3 stones when you should be taking 3, your play is solid enough to be impressive!

Good luck with your goals, SinK. I'm a similar level to you, but don't have anywhere near as rigorous a study programme as you do!
Looks like you'll be overtaking me soon.

In other news I did drop by my university's go club last night and played a couple of games with a friend of mine. He's probably about 25kyu so it wasn't as much fun as it could have been but I have arranged to play a few better players next week though so I'm looking forward to some proper OTB action then.

Re: How to celebrate new years as a SDK.
A strange game. I ended up resigning in disgust at my own play rather than the position although I am definitely not a favourite in the game by the end.
I really need to get back into the habit of reading at least one move ahead every single move to avoid silly mistakes like those below.
