Life In 19x19

As much as i got on gd during it's dying days i didnt get to know don.

May i ask what happened that led to his current perdicament to lead GD into retirement?

And as for this site im happy we were able to still have a go community as i know no other's like GD/LI19

I voted for the "who cares?" option. One of my favorite GD features was the product database, since many of those reviews were helpful in my book purchases. When did that die, close to two years ago? Eventually one gets tired of waiting for things to return to normal.

No, they're glass go stones. She tried to use mini-oreos but it didn't work out.

I wonder if everyone is going back now killing this forum in the process, or if 19x19 is here to stay, or if GD is going to continue to lose people to this forum and close down for good...

Having two similar forums seems a bit unnecessary.

I agree; THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE. I think, through advertising and word-of-mouth, this forum can beat GD just like how Wikipedia beat Encarta . Even as the leading poster on GD, I won't be going back.

I would second this. There can be two sites and they can both survive, the same as IGS and KGS both survive. However, to my mind, Don has shown that he cares little for the day to day running of GD on several occasions. He is also reluctant to turn the site over to the community to run as a non-profit. That gives me little motivation to contribute to GD. I plan on staying on L19 for the time being.

It is useless to go back. It's just a matter of time when that forum is down again. I had some 600 posts on GD, but I'll not go back, unless in order to point to this forum.

The only reason I would go back to GD is to alert people that the action's over here now. Some of the more infrequent posters (like myself) may not be aware of this new forum.

Also, as others have said, it's just a matter of time before GD slips into another coma.

If none of us who have come here ever post in GD again, it will die of inactivity as the group that is here now, provided the vast majority of the posts on GD (I have made over 2000.) Without us GD has no content or purpose. That is my plan, and I encourage others to do the same. No subversive action on GD, just calmly walk away. Those who do show up on GD and find empty rooms will eventually find us. We already have more capability here to form our own community's future than we ever had on GD and it is growing rapidly. Do not turn back.

Yes! I'll never go back to GD and I really hope others do not return as well. Let me make the following case for sticking with L19.

First and foremost, Don has demonstrated his unreliability, he has not participated in GD for years, and he doesn't have the time to maintain a forum. These are facts and not personal attacks against Don. If anyone thinks otherwise, please point them out.

We are the Go forum community and should not be beholden to any single individual. I think this is important enough to continue working toward, and we're finally doing it! Chuck Thomas had the wisdom and decency to see this and did the honorable thing when he saw that L19 rather than Dojo was developing into the new Go forum community. In fact, Chuck had always recognized and supported the independence of this community and offered forum space with that commitment as its basis. That's why he did the right thing. The question is, will Don have the same decency and do the right thing?

As far as I'm concerned, any attempt at this stage by Don to keep GD going is an attempt to split the community. That's fine. He has every right to continue with his venture and protect his investment, but let's not be naïve about what's going on.

When push comes to shove, I'm confident that L19 will carry the day. Nevertheless, it would be very unfortunate if through this process, we ended up as factions and developed into a de-facto rgg consortium. Let's not go there, please.

Glad to see a good number of the community saying they will stay here. I felt pretty confident about that, but seeing the posts here, it makes me feel a lot better. I'd rather not go back to GD where I'm STILL waiting for my account to be fully authorized so I can actually post.

We've got a good (and new--Shiny!) home here, and I'm looking forward to continuing to grow this community.
