Will do.

Pretty much. Go is undoubtedly a magnificent game, once you get a toehold. To be honest, the last time I played Go and was "disgusted", it wasn't Go. It was Redstone. But same idea. Getting continually brutalized while not having a clue is really unpleasant in Go/Redstone.

Well, getting continually brutalized while not having a clue is really unpleasant anywhere, IMHO.

Maybe time to step out of the victim role … and seek support from the many friendly people in the Go community? I’ve had quite a lot of really nice encounters with stronger players (than I am) on KGS and Kaya, very often offering me reviews and explaining my mistakes resp. recommending better moves. Also, I’ve read many many threads here where people shamelessly (in the best sense) submit their game SGFs and so many friendly people here helpfully commenting …

I have the feeling that in life, as in Go, it often is better not to attack directly since this often seems weakens one’s own position.

This thread is becoming more personal attacks than anything else. If it continues I will lock the thread.

The distinction between attacking and defending, in life and in games, isn't always clear.

For the main topic of the thread....it seems to have been amicably resolved by post #5, and a couple other interesting on-topic posts sprinkled throughout (it would be nice if the beta expanded a bit).

For this side-issue:

Of Go? A few. I haven't completely given up on Go, btw. I just need the right instructor. Getting completely annihilated, from the first few moves onward, while receiving zero instruction is not real helpful, believe it or not.

I would disagree here. Once you know the basic rules, and the concept of life and death (essentially what you get at http://www.playgo.to/iwtg/en/ ), go can be very much like swimming or riding a bike....you can try to have all the instruction in the world, but you can't learn to swim from the dock! Get out there and play...Swallow your pride, play some games, get crushed, and get a feel for how the game works, just like the proverb says ("lose your first 50 games as fast as you can, then you can start learning").

As far as the rest of the thread goes...RGG is over there

I've started on these tutorials a few times but I just don't seem to have the tenacity for it. On a typical day I play the sax, smack some yellowjackets with my badminton racket, play some more sax, play Hex Oust online if anyone's around, walk or drive my new cls63 to the taqueria, take a nap with my cats, get a 2 hour Chinese massage, watch crime shows on tv, lights out. There isn't a lot of room in there for travail.

I really don't like this tutorial. This one is much better, hands down.
