Even the atrocious moustache? Well, it is Movember.tundra wrote: Well, I could do without the cigarettes. But everything else should be just as it is in the picture.
Good luck.golem7 wrote:After I became sdk, I wanted to reach 4d egf. I figured this was my max as I only started playing go at 25. But after 2 years of hovering around 1d, I set myself a new goal recently: to participate in the german championship once. will still have to gain at least 2 stones for that. wish me luck

This is probably the best post ever made to L19x19.tundra wrote:To be like this man, from a Camel cigarette advertisement from 1976:

Btw, he seems to be playing Black. How is the position on the board, for either player?
I don't know what you're talking about, that moustache is dapper.TheBigH wrote:Even the atrocious moustache? Well, it is Movember.tundra wrote: Well, I could do without the cigarettes. But everything else should be just as it is in the picture.
Per GoGoD the board in the picture shows Iwamoto Kaoru - Harry Gonshor with the information:tundra wrote:To be like this man, from a Camel cigarette advertisement from 1976:

Sheesh. Get a grip! His opponent is the iconic white-haired, oriental gentleman in traditional robes. There's even the obligatory 'hot' granddaughter bringing the tea! Don't you know anything about the traditions of romance and adventure? This is no dilittante that our hero is facing with his dapper 'stache, his mind of steel, and his pack of smokes... it's the Master himself!!!logan wrote:Wait. I think I have a solution for the extra stones and the fact that the 'stouched man is holding the wrong color...
The game has now finished and he is teaching the dilettante the error of his ways. It seems he has a mind of steel as well as a heart of a philosopher king.
I doubt that the white-haired old gentleman in the picture was Iwamoto. As I recall he was bald. And Harry Gonshor was, to quote an online description, "an oddball who wore Coke-bottle glasses, looked as if he were floating on air ...", hardly the macho moustachioed guy in the ad.ez4u wrote:Per GoGoD the board in the picture shows Iwamoto Kaoru - Harry Gonshor with the information:tundra wrote:To be like this man, from a Camel cigarette advertisement from 1976:

"B+3 {moves beyond 200 not known} (Hcp 6) 6-stone teaching game, Published 1961-12". The most interesting thing is that the picture shows more stones than the game file in GoGoD, so the source was perhaps a more complete record of the game than that published fifty years ago.
I'm guessing this means the people who originally played the game pictured, not the people in the ad.ez4u wrote:the board in the picture shows Iwamoto Kaoru - Harry Gonshor
