I've been following Nalra Oldboy... and now it's going to end so abruptly... Poor Kang Min, got selected for military service out of nowhere.

Yeah, this was
extremely disappointing news. And with the whole BNet/Activision fiasco...ugh.

But, do you really want chat rooms? They're so 2002.
So yea, Bnet 2.0 is a cluster #$!&. However, I'm not too sad about the Kespa deal, Kespa has been quite inapt in many situations. If anyone remember, this is exactly the same terms Kespa forced upon OGN and MBC in 2007. This is just their own medicine forcefed back to them.

Yes, chat rooms are needed. There must be some way to organize games together with friends. It also would make bnet a place to "hang out". It develops community, which should be something they need to aim for, which I believe develops overall skill. Sure, you can always organize games "outside" of bnet, but that's not really something you want to do as a company trying to generate a competitive skill environment.

In case anyone still wants to try and find me for a game, PM me and I'll shoot an email address to you since they got rid of the whole identifier deal (thank goodness), even after beta I'll be using the same email address so w/e. Since patch 13 I've been playing a bit more and pretty much steady at plat rank 9, though I'm 9-4 in a series against my little brother who placed into diamond after getting his own account <__<. Also trying to get the hang of Terran after losing some pretty bitter games against EMPs.

I was quoting Frank Pearce (Blizzard VP of operations, and one of company founders) in a recent interview that really riled up the SC community.

Well then, that makes much more sense.
On to other news, I really need to play more, but I just suck way too horribly. I'm amazed I'm not playing more, but it's really difficult to motivate yourself when you are 10 years behind even the casual crowd.

Sounds fun so I'll probably PM you soon, but I'm only like 30 in gold for zerg so it'll probably be a slaughter

Trust me, there are still a lot of people who are beginners in the Beta and you're already ahead of the curve just being in it

. I don't think anyone's been playing way back in the hay days (well, except WhiteRa) and a lot of people are shaking off rust (like myself, from WC3 since I stopped playing competitively in 2004 thanks to Go). Even the arguably best SC player in the world, Lee Young Ho (Flash), started playing in 2005 (if my memory serves me correctly), more than 5 years after SC was released.

Doubt it, I've played some pretty good gold players and some pretty bad diamond players, the rating system is nice but far from perfect. And trust me, I'm farrrrrrrr from even decent :/.

Araban, Flash is only a teenager though, so he pretty much played as soon as he was old enough. And in the foreign scene, a lot of the top names right now (Nazgul, Day9, Jinro) have been old timers from SC.

Touché touché, the Flash example was weak because of his age but I just hope ketchup isn't discouraged by only recently getting exposure to SC1/2. I'm certain there are many SC2 players who have had little to no experience playing the original as well, and the mechanics between the two games are quite different (certainly more convenient). And also, as I've stated earlier ketchup, you're already ahead of the curve for participating in the beta

.
Digging your Carrier avatar btw Aphelion

Just found this board through playing a few Starcraft 2 games with Aphelion. I'm pretty bad at the game, never played SC1 online, or WC3 for that matter, so I got pwned pretty hard. It was fun to play with a fellow go player though.
The dedication some of the top StarCraft 2 players display in training, and analyzing their games afterwards reminded me so much of go, I came back to the beautiful game and decided I cannot let another year pass without actively trying to gain a few more stones. So I guess 'Hi!' to the entire L19 board, and looking forward to hang out with you in gold league once StarCraft 2 goes live on july 27th.
oh, and I'd rather have my behind handed to me in a game of go, so should you see me online on KGS, challenge away.
Cheers,
Hushfield
