BTW, we currently are seriously considering a dedicated server, so this won't happen. I think Jordus plans to make a decision within the month.

I just heard from Jordus yesterday. We're getting a server upgrade. ( I don't know it it is dedicated to us exclusively, but it should be better. ) It will cost more. So please consider donating.
Jordus or I will post details as available.

Re: The connection has timed out
I've been having slow page loads and some that don't load for the last 20 minutes. Not sure if it's the same problem.

It's erratic, though. It seems to be ok right now, but might not be in a minute.

Slow page loads (sporadic) and the occasional "The Connection has been Reset" for the past two days for me.

Re: The connection has timed out
Same here in Germany, something with error #500 or so.

Sorry, everyone. This should not be happening. Jordus paid for a server upgrade on Feb 24th. I'll see if I can get in touch with him and find out what is going on.
What time of the day do these problems occur? Any pattern?

Evening time GMT usually. Seems quite random. Connection resets when trying to load Unread Posts, refreshing gives an instant load. Same kind of pattern with the slow loading, it's usually just one page giving trouble one time and then normal behaviour again after that.

Re: The connection has timed out
was happening several hours ago for me (Texas, currently), but seems ok at the moment.
but only seemed to be a problem for multi-page threads (mine is set to 40 posts per page). shorter threads seemed ok.

Re: The connection has timed out
Been getting the same slow downs and pages not loading over the past couple of days. It's been going in and out all morning similar to what xed_over is experiencing.

Re: The connection has timed out
I see this coming down to one main question. Where is the slow down occurring?
Do we have any insight into if the problem is still at the DB? Or is it a problem with processing (CPU)? I know in the past this seemed to clear up when the host did a restart on the DB server. Still the case?
For both of these, I can think of a number of examples that could be causing this. A few of the big ones that come to mind:
1) Processing/getting the diagrams (Malkovich threads are very popular! And a few crazy people love to load up massive numbers of posts at a time *cough*xed_over*cough*
).
2) Processing/getting the "Liked others" and "Was liked" counts.
I know how the diagrams are assembled, and that takes processing power. I don't have insight into how the "Likes" are constructed from the database (may not even be a concern), but I could see that putting a drag on the database as it assembles the list(s).
Just my 2 cents.

Seems like the server logs should be able to help identify the issue, both the forum logs and the db logs

If that's what the logs say, then I'll cut back (but why give us the option in the first place?
What's crazy is being able to only read a few lines before having to click away to another page

Re: The connection has timed out
You may have caught a cold … I, too, am guilty of loading up to a dozen of “unread posts” at a time since I don’t like waiting for a thread to load. You don’t really expect us to load just one thread with unread posts at a time, do you, in 2013?schultz wrote:[..]
