To be straightforward with you, neither of us are Inseong, and neither of us are 8d - we don't know what he would say, unless he said it. My personal preference would be to not put words into his mouth. You are probably correct, but it's your interpretation (and mine as well, in this case).

That being said, I think there is a high chance that you are correct. The peep and invasion were certainly unreasonable from my perspective as well. And it's quite possible that Inseong would agree.

As promised, I played another game today so that I could submit it to this thread.

It's my second comeback game, I suppose.

I can really feel that I am weaker now, after giving up go for awhile.
In the past, I became frustrated with lack of improvement. Please remind me to recall how much I get worse when I don't study, next time I complain.

Something like this is much simpler, and better, I think.

Then, of course, there is not the misread at the end of the game.

From this game, I think I can learn:
1. Keep in mind the value of getting sente to play in a big spot (e.g. the top left, where I let black get sente to play first on the left side).
2. Reading practice.
3. Think more about the relationship between my stones. Maybe the shoulder hit on the left was needed, but playing lightly like that made it difficult to have a good relationship between my stones.
4. Really watch out about moving out stones to make a weak group - make sure it's a good strategy (i.e. my moving out on the lower right side wasn't really well thought out).

4k question: if you were unhappy about how easy it was for Black to get a nice position on the left side after your low approach, could a high approach have worked out better in retrospect? (Though I agree that the joseki you found later looks fine.)

I think high approach works in that position. I could have considered a further approach, too.

In general, I think high approach has fewer variations and is simpler. Part of the reason I played low was to get more experience with the low approach.

But maybe high was better. I don't really know. You said it was a 4k question, but I don't know the answer myself: (a) I don't know what my rank is, anymore. (b) Maybe it's a difficult question.

Anyway, these are just a few thoughts. Thank you bringing it up.

After the exchanges of the :wc: and :bc: stones, how about :w1:, treating the :wc: stones lightly? (I don't think that Black's wedge was very good.) White might try the peep at "a", but the weakness at "b" is bothersome.

IMO R5 for R4 isn't a good exchange unless Black has already added a pincer stone. It's like he played an enclosure and you played a stone to remove all the defects from it.

In contrast to the game, I get the opportunity to take sente and play on the left first. I think this makes a huge difference.
You should not want to play on the left. The left holds nothing interesting for you. The most interesting side is probably the top, because of the bad exchange in the bottom right corner which gave Black thickness.

1. Don't give away free thickness
2. Big areas are ones concerning life and death, not points

The result doesn't seem bad to me, but :w5: is not in my vision - I don't even see it as a candidate move, locally, because letting black split with :b6: feels so bad.

Not really a logical reason, but because of that feeling, it's probably unlikely I'd see the sequence in a future game.

:b6: might not be best (maybe black can play 'a'), but does it mean that :w5: is wrong? Seems natural to me, but is there a better move?

I thought it was ok since I got a decent position on the bottom, and could still move my stone out later (though, probably should have done the hane).

I agree that black is thick, but what alternative were you imagining?
