Reminder that what could be the final game between the likely strongest players of both teams is today: Ilya Shikshin vs Ryan Li at 8pm central Europe time. So for Ilya in Russia he could be finishing at 1-2am!

Is there any reason why the matches are all scheduled so late in the day for Europe?

I'm guessing it's another example of naivety / not standing up for themselves by team Europe to ensure they aren't disadvantaged. 8pm Europe is 11am US west coast (and 2pm east where most of the AGA team live). Not having a lazy weekend lie-in and starting 2 hours earlier at 9am to avoid the other side playing past 11pm seems reasonable to me. Maybe US east coast wouldn't like needing to have an early lunch. But 1 hour earlier seems clearly better.

My AYD games are scheduled at 8pm (my time), and it’s very convenient for me. I’m back from work, my kids are in bed, and i can finally focus on my own stuff (although these days, I’m a slave to remodeling).

I’d say starting at 9pm would be less convenient for me, though, more convenient than 7pm since my kids are up then.

If I had no job or family life, my time preferences might be different. I guess it might depend on the individual.

8pm on a weekday makes sense for after work, it's when most of Brit's pandanet European league games are (so 9pm for central European time opponents, if we played Russia we would start earlier to avoid them being late). But on the weekend as these games are there's a lot more flexibility in most people's schedules.

Nice to see Ilya and EGF winning.

Even in this game Ilya lost two out of his five byo periods due to lag. Having a time disadvantage due to that.
He also finished the game at midnight local time i think?
The EGF pros seem to be at a disadvantage that i hope they fix for next year.

That said, I found the Transatlantic to be an extremely nice tournament to watch with good commenting on Twitch, so i decided to donate a small amount per game.
Hopefully others who enjoyed the tournament will do the same so it can be organised again.

High time to eliminate netlag as a factor in this tournament.

We need some rich go player to rent a villa in the US or western Europe for a few weeks so that it can all be done in person. If there is no such single person, maybe we do a kickstart? I'd be in for a few hundred Euros/dollars every year.

Makes no difference to me. My kids go to bed the same time every day, weekend or not. Some folks may have different schedules, but 8pm is quite a reasonable schedule for me.

Not sure if Ilya has kids or if he cares, which is what would be relevant here, I suppose.

How do you know it was due to lag? Did he say that? Midnight is also not that late to finish a game. I don’t see what the big deal is.

Congrats to the EGF and to Ilja!

I had to leave for an errand at move 126, so I didn't catch all the commentary/analysis, but it seems like both players played a very good game.
