Even if he can't go straight to 9d, it would still be pretty spectacular if he won. He'd break Lee Changho's record as the youngest player to win an international tournament too. Maybe that's better than being 9d?trout wrote:If Na Hyun wins this tournament, 1p -> 9p?????????

Semi final: 10/31/11, 11/2/11-11/3/11(Korean date).
It is Sunday night(New York, US).
It will be relayed by Wbaduk and Tygem.
Na Hyun vs Gu Li
Won Seongjin vs Chen Yaoe
PS.
Do not complaint about format of date. Why does it have to be the format you like? What is percentage of world population using whatever format you prefer?
If I use your format, I am sure you will find someone complaint about it. So I might use the format I am comfortable with.

Sorry, but I will complain again. I gave some very reasonable suggestions, which everyone around the world can read. Why not use them? Why would you deliberately choose a format that many people cannot read over a format that everyone can read?trout wrote: PS.

i feel that if you can learn to play go then you are smart enough to figure out what that format is..HermanHiddema wrote:Sorry, but I will complain again. Als je slim genoeg bent om go te leren, ben je vast ook slim genoeg om de Nederlandse taal te leren.
EDIT: Anyway, as an example:
On 09-10-11 I played two tournament games. Can you, based on the European Go Database, tell me what the tournament was, and who my opponents were?

Thanks for your posts, trout. I for one find it much easier to parse your preferred date format than I would Korean.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts.
Herman, is it possible that you don't realize that in American English we say the date as (e.g.) "october 31st, 2011"? The fact that you find it easier to understand another format is neither here nor there. It's not a question of logic or mathematical analysis, it's a question of language.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts.
Well, I asked that something like "Nov 2, 2011" be used, but apparently that is unreadable for Americans?jts wrote:Herman, is it possible that you don't realize that in American English we say the date as (e.g.) "october 31st, 2011"? Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts.
Please just drop the date thing.
trout does a great service to these forums by keeping us all up to date on Go news that we might not otherwise hear about. Let him post the date in the format he's comfortable with because it's really not that important.
We've already had John Fairbairn leave these forums, due mainly to pedantry, in recent times. If everyone could be a bit more patient and less critical, we'll hopefully avoid seeing more people leave.

Ah, well some people just need to get a thicker skin. Somebody hurt their feelings so they took their marbles and went home... well, I think that's too bad for them. I think perhaps the greater loss is theirs. Their contributions will be missed, but the world goes on.gogameguru wrote:Please just drop the date thing.

Most people here don't intend to personally offend anyone else here, so people should stop taking such personal offense at every little remark.
There have been many, many other posts/threads where I've started to reply, but by the time I typed out my response, someone else replied ahead of me, only to realize that I totally and completely misread the original post and I would have been completely embarrassed had I hit submit. Its far too easy to misread someone's intentions from these short interactions.
trout is indeed doing a marvelous service, but his chosen date format does indeed suck. Its ambiguous and hard to read. But if he doesn't want to change it, then that is his choice.
I'm sure that few, if anyone at all, intended personal offense in this thread. So take the advice and change, or ignore the advice and continue on. Either way, it doesn't really matter.
I'll probably regret this post (and make new enemies), but I'm so tired of people's whining that they can't get their way, so they leave in a feeble attempt to punish us all. This is a public forum -- you don't get your way -- you express your opinion, and some people will agree while others disagree. If you want to leave, then leave -- but there's no need to tell us all about it (although its nice to know that you aren't ill or dead yet).

Won Seongjin defeated Chen Yaoe by resign.
Gu Li won against Na Hyun by resign.
** Very interesting game. Na Hyun chased big dragon but got only got tail and wasn't enough.
2nd game will be played 11/2/11. Tomorrow is off day.
Must win 2 out of 3 games to advance to final.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts.
While I too am ticked off by people leaving because apparently they are offended, I must admit that I'm glad that I don't have such a prominent and important position in the go community that people would criticize me for not adequately meeting their demands. Mandating thick skins is not a viable solution.xed_over wrote: Ah, well some people just need to get a thicker skin.
I speak no Dutch, but how's this for a translation:HermanHiddema wrote: Als je slim genoeg bent om go te leren, ben je vast ook slim genoeg om de Nederlandse taal te leren.

This is perhaps a bit tricker than 11.08.12 and I probably got something wrong, but we really do appreciate that you generally write in English. If others could write English as well as you generally do, we would rarely have a problem with ambiguous announcements.
I live in Europe, but how's this for a translation:trout wrote:Semi final: 10/31/11, 11/2/11-11/3/11
"Semi-final: October 31, 2011, November 2-3, 2011."
@ trout: Everybody is interested in your announcements. In principle, that's what we are all saying. Thanks for keeping us informed.
