spoiler?
I feel like Idra self-destructed at the end somehow. Comparing his 2-0 vs MC at the beginning to his 0-4 at the end, it seems like he just gave up and cheesed 3 times in a row :(

Several months ago I liked IdrA. These days I am disgusted by him as a player and as a person.

As for the rest of MLG, there's really only one thing to say.

MLG wow, what a great event! Double stream was a huge addition, so much less downtime. Not to mention the #1 casting team Tastosis! Lots of love for Day9+DJWheat too.

I made a "We Play Go" group for us at GSTL fantasy:
http://www.teamliquid.net/fantasy/gstl/ ... ?r=1&g=288

You can join here:
http://www.teamliquid.net/fantasy/gstl/Groups.php?r=1

If you haven't made a team yet don't worry it's not too late, I have -4 points so you're already beating me!

The keycaps have started to ship. I don't have mine yet because I had a complicated order that included some other stuff, but some other people have posted pictures:

The Protoss and Zerg look as good as I hoped, though I haven't seen a closeup of the Terran yet.

More here...

Which one of you is this?

http://wellplayed.org/forum/articles/th ... isnt-chess

It's not a bad article, though I'd rather think it has more elements of poker in it than either of the two board games.(also source is from reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comme ... snt_chess/ )

Interesting read. But sometimes I think we SC2 players are flattering ourselves by comparing our game with hardcore strategic/tactical games like chess and go. Strategic decisions in SC2 seem to be based almost entirely on broad, discrete game situations that amount to simple prompts and responses, i.e. "if I scout X, then I know I should do Y", and that's it. Certainly in chess or go you use similar principles, but they are only guidelines to help you toward finding the specific move required by that specific position in that specific game, which only reading can give you (and which, importantly, could contradict the principle).

As far as I can see, the majority of skill in SC2 comes from mechanics--execution of macro and micro. Those are the skills that can improve by the tiniest degrees over time, as opposed to strategical ideas like, it's good to go double Forge when you scout a 1/1/1, or whatever. This seems to be very similar to traditional sports, where strategy obviously plays a role, but your physical "mechanics" are the main contributor to your effectiveness as a player. Perhaps SC2 is best described as a virtual team sport where you control all the players.

Awesome that the great NaDa mentions Go in a recent interview: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmes ... _id=239760

Though instead of comparing Go to SC2 in general, he compares it to TvT in BW and how it's different from TvT in SC2.
Q. Many people consider TvT a matchup very similar to SC1, what are your thoughts on this?

No, I think it is much harder. With the added units like Banshees and Marauders, it is hard to find the right balance of units. In SCBW, it was a positional game like Go (the black and white board game), involving positional and mental battles, but in SC2 there is the added dimension of unit composition. I think that TvT, especially in SC2 is both dynamic and fun. Haha.

So to read between the lines...

SCBW, [is] like Go... [but by comparison] SC2 is both dynamic and fun.

MaLa is studying Baduk in Korea at BIBA, he said some of them are going to watch the GSTL. I suggested he make a Baduk related cheerful, here it is:

I'm a bit late here, but some of my friends finally convinced me to get the SC2 demo. After a few games I'm hooked! I will probably be buying the full version sometime next week (I doubt this will help my shodan goal very much, although I did have a bit of a winning streak on KGS after I started playing the game, hmm...).

So far I've played a few games against AI and now that I've learned a little bit about build orders I can do okay against Medium-difficulty AI. Although, I wonder if SC2 AI is like Go AI compared to human players. I'm very-very-slowly learning how to use control groups properly. I've been learning on the "grid" keyboard layout - is that good or bad? I heard it was more efficient when learning to play the other races later.

Hmm, maybe there are better places than a Go forum to ask these things. Ah well, this next week should be fun :D

There is teamliquid, but they can be pretty ruthless and the moderating is VERY heavy. I heard good things about wellplayed.org. But I (and a lot of the Go+SC2 lurkers here) will be more than willing to help. If you ever get the full version and want to practice with me, I'm Junshin.367.
