Why is one needed? We have the forum to post things at.

I don’t know of a FB group
for this forum (and I don’t know why there should be), but there are quite a lot Go-related FB groups, local/national/international; I especially like
Go (Weiqi) Players on Facebook which currently has 4.509 members from all parts of the planet.
Greetings, Tom
<edit>and there I often point to this fine forum

I think there might be some value to a FB page for this forum, for exposure.
But to have an *active* FB page would be a waste, I think. I rather have all the activity in one place (here) rather than scattered across several social media sites and possible several accounts on each. We should try to consolidate rather than fracture.
Also, FB tries to sell me shoes lately by spamming my screen, so not a big fan.

Are these related? Stuff like:
Go places in our SKETCHERS® GOwalk 2™Talk about taking liberties:
Set your feet free with the new Nike® Free iD!Starting running fights? Win them in our asics® GEL-Nimbus 16 Running ShoeWorking to master an ancient Chinese board game called wei'chi? Some of AVIA's shoes are made in China! Please buy them!Admin: Please note that even though you are trying to show examples of what Bantari may have encountered, you are not just talking about them, you are mentioning advertisements of running shoe products. Probably best to just show the context without showing the actual brands and their product names. [tchan001]
5. Advertising
Posting or private messaging advertisement is not allowed. However, if the advertisement is for your own product, it is Go-related, and it's not intrusive to the forums, then it is allowable to have it in your signature and brought up in threads only when appropriate (e.g: someone asks for places to buy Go bowls, and you have a site that sells Go bowls. In this case, it's allowable to post a link to your site).

They cannot do it unless you let them. No facebook account means no facebook spam.

Now I'm getting ideas for slogans for The Fancy Puffin.

I use FB and I use Google+. It’s been YEARS since I’ve seen any ads on the Web.
I also use AdBlock for Chrome. (Plus Glimmerblocker for OS X.)

True.
But for some very specific reasons I need/want to have a FB presence.
When I forget to log out, it keeps annoying me even on other sites, even though I don't really "use" FB in any sense of the word other than having a presence.
Still, there might be positive aspects to that as well, so what do I know... Maybe I get some nice snickers.

Only positive thing I have ever noticed about it is that if you ever suffer from amnesia you can go to it and find out everything about yourself.

A Facebook page for a forum? That seems a bit odd. Facebook is for people that want a mimi forum without making one themselves.

You can only find out as much as you put in.
I don't put in very much, as I said, so it would be useless for me for that purpose.
PS>
For the people who spill their lives on FB and then are upset that their lives are online - I am not sure what to say. FB is a tool, like any other tool. And like any other tool it may injure you or it might help you, it all depends how you use it. I prefer to use my tools wisely, but use them nonetheless.
Anyways, I am not sure this is the right place to discuss the pros and cons of FB in general.
It is supposed to be a discussion about any advantages of a hypothetical L19 FB page.
