Instead of 12, if black takes white's liberty, white plays 13 and black ends up with one eye. If black plays 13 instead of 12, white plays 12 and it's the same as the diagram.

Prodigious already posted the answer. Here are a couple of variations, as well.

The original position certainly looks hard to kill. I like the combination of the under the stones play and damezumari.
