Game on WBaduk after 2-year break.

Post by alephzero »

I'd like to post a game I played on WBaduk. It is the game between two 18k but I think 18k on WBaduk doesn't really mean 18k.:) It is one of my first games played after about 2 years long break. I lost the game by 12,5 points. I'd like you to review the game pointing mistakes I made. I think that if black play Q9 as a 73th move then he'll win the game.

I have to say I find wbaduk brutal in the high ddk level (I'm around 16k there). For me I think it's a combination of the blitzy time limits, aggressive style on the site plus just a stronger level of play at that rank. It's fun to play there though, learn a few tricks, and try out that crazy in your face fighting style on a more territorial style site like igs.

My highest rank was 6 kyu on KGS but it was 2 years ago and since then I haven't been playing. The problem is that I can't approximate my level now. Maybe something around 10 k KGS (but I hope it is higher) but I didn't play a game on KGS because everybody wants to play ranked games or blitz fun games and no one is willing to play an equal ranked game with "?". But I'll try to play few games with 10k or stronger playes and estimate my strength. So let's say I'm 9k. Even if it is lower, then it'll me take about 2 weeks IMO to achieve a KGS' SDK level of playing.

I can't see the game - it says something about a problem retrieving the game data. Is it just my broken internet connection?

I don't see it, either.

In your there SGF were some invalid characters - e. g. it started with ( instead of (; - which tool did you use to convert from wbaduk to sgf?

Below, I pasted a corrected version for convenience.
A few minor notes from my side:
  • On :b73: I would chose the solid connection s7 instead of s6. If b then plays r6, you can destroy the upper eye with q9. If b plays q10 you can throw in at q8 and then connect at q11 with atari. Afterwards, you can destroy the lower eye by playing R6 for yourself.
  • On :b81: I would atari from the other side (m6 instead of n5). In emergency, you can kill anytime on o1, but your upper stones would be kept connected.
  • With moves 99, 101, 103 you are just wasting 3 ko threats. At this time it was IMHO much more urgent to invade at 3-3 in upper left.
  • On 157 I would again prefer the solid connection G4. White could not prevent you to connect and his j3 group should get into trouble.
Thus, normally you should have won by a large margin, however I know that with wbaduk's ddk players things are different... ;-)
